I have seen lots of recipes around using mixtures of sand, cornflour, and water - so I put my thinking cap on and decided to try a little experiment using sand, corn flour and coconut oil!
It really is wonderful. It's lovely and mouldable, forms fantastic shapes AND it smells like you're on a tropical island whilst playing with it.
My kids love my Tropical Sand Dough - it's such a great sensory activity for little hands.
It's great for Mum's too as you only need three inexpensive ingredients for an activity that will keep the kids entertained for hours - on any day, whether it's hot or cold!
To make your very own Tropical Sand Dough you will need:
- 4 cups of Sand (I'm lucky enough to live by the beach, but you can buy play sand at Craft Stores)
- 2 Cups of Corn Flour
- 1 cup of Coconut Oil (you can buy this from the local supermarket - it is used for cooking and is quite inexpensive)
- You will also need a large tub to mix and play with your sand dough.
Add in your 4 cups of sand to the tub.
Add your 2 cups of corn flour to the sand.
Pour on your coconut oil to the mix.
Get your hands dirty and squeeze and squelch your mixture until you have a soft sand consistency.
Get creative and have FUN playing and creating with this great Tropical Sand Dough!
