A 19-year-old from Colorado is looking to rent a family for her birthday and the reason is heartbreaking.

Natalie Carson posted a message on Craiglist offering $8 an hour for a family to be hers for the day.

"I just want one day, that I can feel important and special, and like I matter even if I really don't," says Carson in her post.

"I have never had a good birthday so I figure why not this birthday."

The teen did have family once; she was adopted in Colorado shortly after she was born and moved to Georgia.

Her adoptive family were abusive and she was placed back into foster care when she was 12 and aged out of the system at 18.

Returning to Colorado on her own, Carson enrolled in college and is studying computer science.

Now, before she turns 20, the teen is looking for a family to spend her birthday with.

Speaking to 7 News Denver Carson says, "It's something that I've never really had. Of course I've had birthdays, but they haven't been good."

"Usually every birthday is really painful and hard."

According to Yahoo Parenting, Carson said she usually sleeps through her birthday.

Hopefully this year will be different.

Carson said she didn't think people would respond but since 7 News featured her on their program she has received emails from all over the world.

"I think I've gotten more than 1,000 emails," she said.

"Now I feel more hopeful about my birthday, and more happy. I feel a bit bad too, though in a way, because I'll be 40 before I can celebrate my birthday with all of these people. I want to be like, 'Will you be willing to wait until I'm 40?'"

Feeling so grateful for the generosity of strangers, with some offering to fly her to their homes for her birthday, Carson said she just wants a "normal birthday."

"I just want something low-key."
