One mum thought she had the perfect elf scenario lined up ...until her husband cooked it - literally.
Chelsea Hightower, from Kansas, put together a sweet elf idea for her three kids. Arranging three elves in the oven, complete with tiny blankets fashioned out of paper towel and making a handwritten sign reading: 'It's a lot toastier in here!', along with a piece of toast, it appeared foolproof.
That is, until her husband Matt decided to make a snack while she was out Christmas shopping.
Sharing the resulting melted elves pic to Facebook, the mum wrote a hilarious account of the mishap.
"Thank you everyone for the concerns of our elves Jingle,Belle,Magic!," she wrote.
"Yesterday what started out as just warming themselves up in the oven after a day in the fridge and things got more toasty than planned when this momma stepped out briefly to roam the aisles of Target solo in hopes to finish up Christmas Shopping..."
Explaining that she hadn't been out long before receiving 'the call' from Matt.
"Babe I feel horrible (insert long awkward pause) I cooked the elves."
Joking that they would make a full recovery via her trawling stores around 'the whole KC area', she warned: 'To whomever this may help in this elf season BAKE COOKIES NOT ELVES!'
