In an astounding commitment to beauty and a carefully-crafted image, one 17-year-old high school senior has gone to great lengths to ensure his yearbook photo is exactly the way he wants it.
James Charles is a skilled beauty vlogger who boasts nearly 700,000 views of his instructional beauty videos to date, so it was absolutely imperative that his high school yearbook was just so.
When the photo studio came to his high school in Bethlehem, New York to take his senior year's photos, Charles was up early that morning and prepared with his chosen look all ready to go.
woke up at 7am to get glam & all I want to do is go back to sleep but senior portraits were a success pic.twitter.com/mxtnfsIrYt— James Charles (@jcharlesbeauty) August 31, 2016
He ended up being less than impressed with the proofs however, explaining in an interview with Mashable, "...the lighting in the room was bad and my highlight was NOT on fleck". So he took matters into his own hands, contacted the studio and had them re-take it under his strict instructions.
Charles' secret weapon came with him to the shoot; a ring light that delivers optimal illumination for portrait photography.
"My ring light is what I use for my photos normally so I knew having it would make the highlight look better."
The results speak for themselves.
So I retook my senior photos & brought my ring light with me so my highlight would be poppin. I love being extra pic.twitter.com/7Qu1yu8U2P— James Charles (@jcharlesbeauty) September 5, 2016
We think he's just coined the next new self-appreciating mantra for hip young things everywhere. You sure are extra, James.
Speaking to Mashable he says that he's destined for the bright lights of the big city when he finishes up school and is surprised and delighted by the attention his photos have received. He even got a nod from actor Zendaya, who tweeted "You win," alongside a heart eyes emoticon.
Watch this space, this kid is all that and more. Just look at him sing.
