While man babies everywhere are crying about the lack of realism in a woman being a time traveller who gets around in a phone box, girls all over the world celebrated the announcement of Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor.
None more so than eight-year-old Erwine, who appeared in a video that quickly went viral, squealing in delight that, "The new doctor is a girl!"
Erwine's mum Jenny Trout explained why the announcement meant so much to Erwine.
"I've been a Doctor Who fan since the 90s," explained Jenny to HuffPost UK, "So Erwine has been around it her whole life, but she only really started following it a few years ago.
"[Christopher] Eccleston was her favourite Doctor for a long time, but [Peter] Capaldi may have taken that spot. She cried when she heard he was leaving."
Jenny thinks Jodie Whittaker playing the Doctor will be significant for young girls watching the show.
"I think Doctor Who has always had strong female role models, but having The Master, and now the Doctor, played by women is going to be huge for girls," she said.
"They won't feel like they have to pretend to be the companions any more. They can share that childhood experience of pretending to be The Doctor that boys have experienced for more than 50 years."
The video of Erwine's delighted response was retweeted over 18,000 times in less than 24 hours, and attracted over 62,000 likes.
