It has just been announced that thirteen international characters will be introduced in the new Thomas & Friends movie The Great Race and the exciting news for us is that there's an Aussie in the mix.

The creators behind Thomas the Tank Engine have decided it's time to get global. It has just been announced that thirteen international characters will be introduced in the new Thomas & Friends movie The Great Race and the exciting news for us is that there's an Aussie in the mix. His name is Shane and here's the official word on him:

"Based on a SteamRanger 520 Sir Malcolm Barclay Harvey, 'Shane of Australia' is one of the 'Whispering Giants' of the South Australian Railway - a big strong steam engine who was built for passenger and mixed freight work. Shane loves to have fun and his carefree ways have made him many friends on his long journey to the Great Railway Show."

The eleventh Thomas Tank Engine movie will screen across Australia in May, much to the delight of young fans who will be treated to a story about Thomas testing 'his mettle against a host of new engines at the Great Railway Show.'

The new international characters include engines from Brazil, China, India, Scotland, Australia, North America, Germany, France, Italy and Russia.
