Bellefin, I'd go get a second opinion elsewhere. To me it sounds like your OB just doesn't want to go in if it happens on Christmas day? otherwise why would he ask you first if you wanted to be induced com when you say no he then says you may need to be. I may just be jumping the gun but wouldn't have thought they would ask you if you wanted it first if there maybe was a genuine medical need?

I second your thoughts too natalia. I thought it was quite strange. i mean I get that no one wants to work on Christmas Day but i wouldnt want to be induced (if i didnt need to be) just so someone can guarantee that they wont have too.

My 10 days after my due date falls on Christmas Day.  So if I have to be induced thats when they will most likely do it. My midwife said that they would probably try and do it before. (I'd have to be transferred out of the birth centre to public). Im really hoping it doesnt get to that point.

Thanks Natalia and Kiwimel, yeah DP and I have pretty much decided to decline being induced if baby is "too big". One way they calculate weight is by femur length and I know she has very long femurs so that is probably skewing the weight estimate. The only thing I can really do is just see what happens over the next few weeks. Believe me I don't want my baby born on Xmas Day either but she took 13 cycles to conceive so she had plenty of opportunity not to be so if she is born at Xmas then it was meant to be.
We pay obs so much to compensate for having to work on Xmas Day or at 3am or whatever.

Who knows Bellefin your little girl will come when shes ready and that could even be on her due date so therefore XMAS day wouldnt be an issue anyway. Im suprised an OB would suggest an induction out of convenience anyway.

Yesterday I had a breaking moment. It was so hot here in Adelaide. I was at work and ended up leaving. I walked out just before lunch telling them I give up and I'll see how I feel about coming in today. I got home and layed in the pool with my sun umbrella until DF pulled me out for dinner. Went to bed at 7pm and only woke at 10 today. I hate heat at the best of times but yesterday certainly knocked me for six.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi all I haven't been replying in here for some time...have been so busy in and out of hospital
(Actually is were I am at now) I have had bleeding from low placenta twice now ..2 days ago had to be bought in by ambulance at 2am sirens and all...was a little scary ...hence while I am still here now..all good at moment though so other than needing a iron transfusion tomorrow hopefully be going home soon ...it sucks being away from my family  sad.gif  congratulations to all the families who's bubs have already been born ...I don't feel so one now that I might be delivering early too ..34 weeks now....ill try and visit regularly now I should have lots of time on my hands in hospital

Bellefin don't be induced for convenience ..my doc tried to do same with my first as he was going on holidays when bubs wad due..I declined as I didn't want to increase risk of Caesar..as it turned out he was away and I did end up needing an emergency Caesar for brow presentation..but if I had done earlier I would always have regretted not letting it happen naturally if that makes sense

4littleloves - Sorry to hear you are in hospital again. Do they have plans to induce/CS or is it to just wait and see how things go?

Bellefin - It certainly does sound like he is trying to avoid being there Xmas day. Why else would he offer you an elective induction only to say after there is a medical reason for it? If there was a medical reason then that is what he should of said first.

By the end of next week my baby boy will be here so not long now! Very excited to see what he looks like and cuddle him original.gif

3 weeks to go for me.

i think I finally may start to be getting braxton hicks. Its pretty cool in a my body is preparing for our baby to come. I cant wait to snuggle our baby too!

DH and I and alot of my friends have placed bets on when bubs is due. Do you guys do that?

#16 Bob Loblaw

Posted 23 November 2012 - 08:29 AM

Congratulations to those with new arrivals! I have been AWOL from this group but hope to keep up to date with everyone's progress a bit more now.

I am almost 37 weeks and have been getting Braxton Hicks now for a week or so. Baby is still very active too - sometimes making it very difficult to sleep!

A few nights ago I had a bit of a scare and thought I might be leaking fluid - wasn't much but a call to the hospital midwives reassured me that it wasn't my waters breaking. The first time around they gushed out like a waterfall at 39 weeks!

I'm getting more anxious as the due date approaches - I'm hoping for a VBAC this time around so it adds a bit of uncertainty to the whole process.

KiwiMel - we don't have any bets on the due date, but I would be happy for the baby to arrive before Christmas!

Good luck to everyone over the next few weeks - not long to go now!

Hi ladies. Just wanted to let everyone know that my little girl Alana Julia arrived last night at 8.55pm weighing 6lb9oz or 2.990kg. 7 hour induced labour, no stitches and mum and bubs both doing well.

#18 Stardusties

Posted 23 November 2012 - 08:48 AM

Congratulations frogcal! Glad to hear you're both doing well  happy.gif

I'm so jealous of all the Mumma's who've had their babies already or those who have a date already scheduled.  I want newborn snuggles!! I've been getting BH since my labour scare which is uncomfortable and Baby thinks it's a great game to kick me in the ribcage/side every chance she gets so I'm hoping she decides to make an appearance sometime soon. A little over three weeks til she's due- hoping very much that I don't go over!

Congratulations frogcal and welcome to the world Alana!

AFM - DH is still at sea. He's due home on the 5th of December so I've been telling bub that the 8th would be a good day to arrive  wink.gif  I've been getting BH for the last couple of months but after some acupuncture yesterday for my back they are really ramped up. And I definitely concur with all of you that have said they're exhausting. I'd kill for a decent nights sleep right now. Last night bub was stretching out so much i thought he was going to push himself out  ohmy.gif  Other than that I have been a pretty boring pregnant woman. Have a MW appointment scheduled for Tuesday (hopefully my belly mapping has been useful).

Mel - We haven't been betting on dates (other than having every man and his dog say 'I bet youll have the baby Christmas day'. So many friends and family have been asking when are you actually due as we have been telling them late December so I tell them I'll be 40 weeks on the 22nd but I won't be 'overdue' till the 6th of January. And goodness help them if they start pestering me before the 6th with 'have you had the baby yet'. Wow, I sound a little snippy now that I see it in text. I guess lack of sleep will do that to you.

Hope everyone else is going ok - and to those that have been spending a fair amount of time at extra appointments and in hospital I have my fingers crossed for you to be out of the woods soon.

Better go, the sewing machine is calling.

Congratulations frogcal sounds like all went well.

Been getting bh for months too, but last few weeks pretty much all the time.bubs has started useing my bladder as a puching bag too so am peeing every 5 minutes.

Bellefin, don't stress too much over what you think ob meant, if he was thinking you may need induction might just have been sussing out how you felt about it before bringing up the reasons.

4littleloves sorry to hear you are stuck in hospital. With the bleeding will you have to stay until bubs is born?

#22 FourLittleLoves

Congratulations frogcal!

4littleloves I hope baby can stay in for a little longer, will you be likely to go home before the arrival?

Congrats frogcal on the birth of your baby girl. That's lovely news and I hope you enjoy the experience with her - her first Christmas is just around the corner!

AFM - I'm getting general aches in my pelvic bones and groin. Ob tells me bubs head is engaged and she is in the left Occiput transverse position. Has anyone else got aching pelvic bones? Makes me waddle! Does an engaged head mean early labour?

Nope. Ds's head was engaged from 28 weeks last time and he didn't come out till his due date.

Congrats Frogcal!!

last day at work for me today.  YES!! 4 weeks till baby is due... have been renovating & havent lived in the house for about 2 months... getting so over it - Friday next week and should be able to move back in.  OVER IT!!

i just really need to mentally/emotionally prepare for having a baby. Anytime i have a serious conversation with someone about having baby i have to stop myself crying - not because i am sad - its just so overwhelming.  Is anyone else feeling like that?  Its not even cute little tears - its i have to stop or i would be a blubbering mess!! Think it is just getting real.

Now i am off work - you guys are going to get so sick of me!!  wink.gif
