Oh my poor ears! Have just come back from the national geographic shop and they were playing The Twelve Days of Christmas (an annoying song at the best of times) but with an Australian theme! ..sung by that highly annoying John Williamson (well it sounded like him...

I have to say...Lamest.Lyrics.Ever. And I can't get it out of my [expletive] head.

...."and an emu up a gum tree...." Arrrrgh

Ooh. I hate Rudolph, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bell Rock, We Wissssssh You a Merry Xmas, Deck the Halls, that one that goes 'Santa Baby...', White Christmas and The Little Drummer Boy.

That's more than I posted in the carols I like thread.

I have been spared this to date....however my oldest is only in kindy so no doubt this joy awaits me at some time in the future. Hopefully I will be deaf by then.

Apart from the ubiquitous '80 s rock band Feed the World style songs, I also hate those renditions of (usually) quite nice carols sung by women who - to quote an article i read the other day- "sound like they've got a pineapple shoved down their throat" ...(Mariah Carey that's a big finger pointed at you...)

There is a version of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer that is truly horrible!

We call it Rudolph on Crack!

Australian Jingle Bells is also a trauma to your eardrums.

Not sure if it's the one you are writing about but we have a version by Dean Martin which is pretty horrific....at one point they have this kid singing and Dean's in the background trying to sound all "aw cute kid" but you can tell he's over it and is thinking "when can we throw this bozo out of the studio and break out the cocaine and the broads ...."

You guys are aiming way too low - I don't think anything can top "Christmas Shoes". (Available on YouTube if you're in any doubt.)

Not a Christmas Carol as such, but one that is often sung at the carols - Amazing Grace.

Beautiful song, however to me it's a funeral song.

The Fairy on Top of the Christmas Tree

()

It was on a compilation album that I got once, and it is truly pus - one lyric is "but Christmas time is sad for me because no-one ever notices the fairy on the Christmas tree"

I spent many years working in retail in the UK... And yet the first Christmas we spent in Australia I had to go out and buy that song, it just wasn't Christmas with out it!

I hate it when they mess with traditional songs, especially the Australian need to put emu/platypus/wallaby in. Honestly, who does that appeal to?

I trust that none of you have had the displeasure of hearing the Moshi Monsters 'Twistmas' song? It's been stuck in my head ever since I read this thread title  cry1.gif

Are you in Ireland, JingleBob? Or have I missed the dreamed of day that Oz gets M&S and Dunnes?

And 'Christmas Dinner Country Style' is a bit of a doozy. A rare miss for Bing.

I nominate The First Noel.

It is so bloody repetitive! The verse is the same melody as the chorus and it just goes on and on.

Santa baby has got to rate.

Joy to the world is dull as dirt (especially for a song about joy..) it's all the worst things about the worst hymns.

Away in a manger is sooo sickly sweet and just... sh*t.

Jingle bells is inane.

Rocking around the Christmas tree sounds like a hi-5 song. Which is bad.

Mary did you know is cringe-worthy and corny.

But to me, the all-time winner HAS to be 'a virgin unspotted'. For title alone, but the actual song is crap too.

Sorry for crap typing I'm on a phone

We got a Christmas album the other year.

There was a GAGA one which had me  oomg.gif

Light me up put me on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, la, la
Light me up put me on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, la, la

The only place you'll wanna be is
Underneath my Christmas tree
The only place you'll wanna be is
Underneath my Christmas tree

Light me up put me on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, la, la
Light me up put me on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, la, la

Ho ho ho, under the mistletoe
Yes, everybody knows
We will take off our clothes
Yes, if you want us to we will

You, oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious
Oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious

Light you up put you on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, let's go
Light you up put you on top, let's
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, let's go

Ho ho ho, under the mistletoe
Yes everybody knows
We will take off our clothes
Yes, if you want us to we will

You, oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious
Oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious

Here, here, here, the best time of the year
Take off my stocking's, we're
Out spreading Christmas cheer
Yes, if you want us to we will

You, oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious
Oh ,oh, a Christmas
My Christmas tree's delicious

Space cowboy, Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga
And she goes
Space cowboy, Lady Gaga, Lady Gaga
Here we go

Cherry, cherry, boom, boom

I can think of some Christmas songs that should never have been written - "Last Christmas" by Wham and "Please Daddy, Don't Get Drunk for Christmas" by John Denver come to mind. Can't stand "Silver Bells" or "White Christmas" or "Winter Wonderland" either, especially in Bi-Lo the week before Christmas when the place is packed and service is scant. The Wiggles singing "Feliz Navidad" is enough to make me go and rock in a corner with my hands over my ears.

As far as carols go, "The First Noel" is dreadful: long and repetitive."Silent Night" because it's slow and seems to take so long to end, and "Once in Royal David's City" for the same reason. Also hate "Frosty The Snowman", "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella", "Good King Wenceslas" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".

What's the explanation for Here Comes Santa Claus?

Here comes Santa Claus
Here comes Santa Claus
Right down
Santa Claus Lane

Santa has a lane? Surely this is Peter Cottontail turf? The Easter Bunny is going to p*ssed, y'all.

And Jingle Bell Rock is the least rock song there is.
