I have shin splints and was referred to a physio by my GP and just wanted to see what people think of the treatment. The physio showed me some stretches and told me to ice it often, but then she also massaged the back and side of my calf, pulling up to the knee, as she said the muscle was very tight which had caused the shin splints. This massage was quite painful but I figured it was part of stretching the muscle. However, when I spoke about it to a family member who has a lot more personal experience with these sorts of injuries (but isn't any kind of physio/doctor) she seemed shocked and said I should go to a different physio. So is this normal treatment? I've been to the physio and had it done twice so far, it does seem to be getting better but does ache a lot after the physio visit.
