My little sister just got her acceptance offer into her first preference university course, as a mature aged student. She is going to study primary school teaching. She is going to be so, so, soooo awesomely awesome at it.

I am incredibly proud of her as its been a hard road to this point (as an insight, my Dad, who she was very close with, died suddenly the day before her 18th birthday, which also as the day she sat her first year 12 exam).

She is coming over Thursday night and I really want to make a big fuss of her.

Any thoughts? My first thought was to get her some stationery or something, but that's when my ideas fizzled out.

Please don't suggest expensive stuff because I'll want to get it, but can't.

Thank you in advance!

What a lovely idea.  I would fill a box with stationery items - little magnets, pens, stickers, paperclips, mini stapler etc - I'd go to a $2 shop and you should find everything you need there.  When I was on my teaching prac my mentor teacher was a new graduate and some of her friends had given her something similar and she loved it.

If you go to Officeworks, they will print cute stickers for you. Such as 'Mrs XYZ says great work!' or 'Ms XYZ says well done'. Being personalised will make them special. And - as someone teaching primary school - you can NEVER have enough stickers! Even as a prac student, the stickers will come in very handy.

Something keepsake-y would be a good pen engraved with a message/date/name. They don't have to be expensive.

If money is tight, I'd just make a special dinner and decorate a cake with a message. It really is the thought that counts.

I love the pen idea!

I'd really love to raid kikki K or something, so that was more what I mean about not expensive!

I can tell you what someone gave me the week before my first prac teaching placement that I still treasure. It's an amber pendant and my friend gave it to me saying it was good to keep the heart centred and grounded and that it would help me to feel calm and in control in the classroom. I don't know if that's true or not but if I know I'm going to have a stressful day putting that pendant on really helps me because it reminds me of her thoughtfulness and belief in me. I really treasure it.

Kikki K are having a 'members' sale this week - it ends Sunday night. From memory its 20% off across the store and online.
Think you can join up online too.
How much is too much? I love Kikki Ks leather A5 noetbook/diary covers - you can buy new infills each year. They have some stunning apricotty/salmony pink ones at the moment.

Congrats to your sister!
