My DS 2yo has suffered from chronic constipation pretty much forever and has been on a low dose of laxative (lactalose atm) everyday for close to a year, I can't remember exactly when we started.
The last few months he has been improving and was finally having a bowel movement almost everyday(with laxative), this improvement has coincided with us removing a heap of processed food but not so much a diet change we just make our own of everything. Our paed asked us to go dairy free to try and see if its a CMP intolerance so we have been dairy free for almost 3 weeks. He was still going everyday but I have realised tha we can't actually tell if its making a difference without removing the laxative so we have done that and he is still pooing (1 week).
His poo though is foul smelling (more then usual) and liquidy (about the same he doesn't have formed poos often) and is making his bum red (not usual). He farts and burps all the time more than usual and he has always been windy, he is breaking wind every 15 mins all day and night and it smells so bad I want to vomit.
Is this a normal reaction from changing from dairy to soy? and might calm down a bit after his body is more used to it?
Could he be soy intolerant?
We are thinking about maybe another week off the dairy and the laxative and then giving him some dairy to see if he becomes constipated again is that long enough or do we need to stay dairy free longer?
Any advice is welcome
