All the towns surrounding us have run dry.  You won't get diesel within a 2 hour radius of us.  Our courier has told us he only has enough to keep going until Tuesday then he's going to have to park his fleet.

How did this Diesel shortage creep up so quickly!  There was basically no warning!  Such a bad time of year with Christmas just 2 weeks away.

Oh feck I didn't realise. That would be why the local didn't have a diesel price up. I will be stuffed ( plus driving Melb to Sydney at Christmas)

is this only Vic? Is NSW going to be affected too?

We were told yesterday that it could take between 4 & 8 days to get the diesel back to normal.
We're out in central Vic, the mines usually have 40,000+ litres of diesel, they now have 15,000 and that will have do them until Thursday.

We're in Central Vic too.  We know a couple of farmers who have been told they just have to wait to see what allocation they will get.  And it's right on harvest time!

I was talking to a local fire fighter earlier about the fact that we were out of diesel in town.  They said that technically we're not 'out' but once reserves get to a certain level the petrol stations have to stop selling it and hold whats left for emergency vehicles.  They said they have had dozens of angry people saying its a stupid rule.  I think I'd much rather know that if a bushfire broke out or I needed an ambulance that they were going to get to me!!!

We filled up this morning at a United petrol station, they had had a full delivery this morning and said they weren't affected by the troubles.  We're in Ballarat.

I got fuel in Traralgon today and there was no diesel at the Caltex servo there.

Another in Central Vic.

Yes, we have 1 car that runs on diesel, which has less than a 1/4 tank left, so we're just not going to use it for the next couple of days. DH wasn't aware until I told him yesterday morning. He rang lots of places but they were out.  One place said they hoped to get a delivery in the afternoon and to call after 4.30, so he did, but they didn't answer the phone - felt sorry for them for having to field phone calls all day. sad.gif

A few mums were talking at school yesterday morning about it - some live 20 minutes away from school (rural area), so I feel for them, they didn't realise either.

Someone that has a bus company said they were also in trouble and wouldn't be able to work if they couldn't find diesel. One or two of DH's clients are affected. DH did a bigger grocery shop than his usual 1 meal shop, as he was concerned there could be a shortage in some foods.

The local news says that some places might not get a delivery until Tuesday. At least DH can work from home. wink.gif

In a way, it's annoying as it really wasn't in the news so you could plan and prepare, but I guess on the other hand you'd have people getting diesel due to panic, even if they had enough to last them for a week or so.

Are people finding shortages in Melbourne metro area?

Why are there shortages?

We're driving down to Vic for Christmas in a diesel car.  Should we be filling jerry cans to take with us?

The reason you would have been able to fill up with no worries from a united is because there fuels are imported.

There was a leak at the refinery in Geelong last week that has caused the shortage

I'm in Macedon Ranges, and there's no diesel to be had. Unfortunately I hadn't heard about it and was planning to get fuel after work last night. ATM I'm on a red light, so dead empty, and if it doesn't lift in the next couple of days, I won't be able to get to work this week.

I think there's a united station 15 min away. If only I've got enough fuel to get there.....

Its frustrating i have 1/4 tank which will not get me through the week, however DH's car runs on petrol so atleast we will still have one car operational.

I hope they are able to re-supply soon.

We drove from Coburg to Doveton and back today, and didn't see diesel available anywhere. Thank goodness both cars are pretty full with 600km+ to go.

As soon as I see some I'm topping up and maybe grabbing a can or 3! We have a lot of distance to cover over the holidays. DHs car is from his company, hopefully he can switch cars to a petrol model if things are dire.

By the holidays I would expect it to be all sorted

Oh and to add insult to injury DH, a diesel mechanic, tells me it's really bad for your diesel engine to run it with the tank close to empty. Something about sediment, sorry my eyes glazed over when he went into detail.
