I have the 30 minute meals cookbook and have made a few things - I highly recommend the mustard chicken.

I'm addicted to the show '15 minute meals'.  A colleague bought the book recently and said it did take the suggested 15 minutes (slightly over looking at the recipe).  

Any favourites from the cookbook?  I'm keeping an eye out for a copy, they're hard to get this time of year.

Oh I like the 15 minute meal recipes as well, we made an Asian salad which was yummo.
If you are looking for a copy of the 15 minute meals cookbook I saw some in my local post office (Sydney inner west) for $50

i have made a few things they all cook in the time said and they all taste great.

Big W has them on sale for just over $20

They take 15 minutes if you don't count getting some the ingredients and equipment out as part of the time.  There's certainly no time for rummaging around in the pantry for the paprika or whatever.   Also, the way he does the recipes means they use many, many more dishes and pans than I usually do and the kitchen looks like absolute carnage afterwards.

If you're the type of cook who does things one after another to minimise kitchen mess, they'll take you more like 1/2 an hour.  I rarely cut up meat before salad/vegies, for example, because then I need to get out a clean board and knife for the salad, but plenty of his recipes do things that way around.  

I can't help noticing when I watch the show that JO often doesn't wash his herbs/vegies etc, so if that's something you do, that will add to the time the recipes take too.

Having said all that, they are quick, yummy recipes so I'd recommend the book anwyay.

He seems to use a lot of the pre-washed bags of herbs, salad 'stuff', vegetables etc.  I personally steer clear of bagged fresh things and if I did buy them, I would wash them.  I once bought beans in a sealed bag, didn't wash and I swear I could taste some type of chemical sick.gif

He also uses blenders A LOT - which I don't have.

We love watching the show, it has encouraged my kids to try food they might not otherwise.  I also pick up little tips like scrunching up and wetting baking paper to make it fit in the tray and using spring onion to give the onion taste without all the prep and cooking time.

Same here!  As I mentioned in another thread, the best one I've picked up is not peeling your garlic cloves to crush them.  Just pop them in the crusher peel and all - all the crushed garlic oozes out.  In fact, you end up with more garlic than you would peeled.

I love the book and shows too. I find that they are a lot healthier than the 30 minute meals as they don't include dessert.

We made the first dish in the book (coconut buns with chicken and steamed broccolini) which was tasty. I have also made one of the spaghetti ones which was good. I did however make the tomato salad last night (the recipe with the dahl) and it was not very nice.  Too much lemon for me.

I have seen them in Big W, Kmart and Costco (all for around $25).

I love the show and have the book.
I've cooked three of the recipes so far and if I started with ingredients ready they took me 20 - 25 mins.  So, not quite 15, but still a pretty quick dinner.

And very tasty - the coconut buns (first recipe) with hoisin chicken in fabulous and I enjoyed the other recipes I've tried too.

I find the serving sizes a bit light on meat and heavy on rice/pasta  (that's the way I used to eat but being with my DH now I'm used to more meat, less pasta/rice) so be aware that if you are big meat eaters you might want to up the quantities a little.

Definitley a thumbs up from me.

I've noticed that too.  I'm not a huge meat eater - I mean, we eat far too much meat (4 - 5 nights per week) but, I don't have large portions so his dinners appeal to me.

My husband however ..... er, Fred Flinstone!  (He thinks a meat free meal is baked potatoes with a heap of bacon unsure.gif )

We made the chicken with lentils, seriously good. Also the spinach and feta filo parcels were nice, fancy and not difficult. The salad that accompanies it is my new go to recipe.

We've also made the steamed buns with chicken but weren't blown away.

I got the book online for about $23. Love it!

We've had 2 or 3 recipes a week from it for the last 3 weeks, and have loved most things. On average they're probably taking about 20-30min to cook rather than 15min but this isn't too far outside our usual go-to recipes. If you have everything out and ready to go it helps cut down on the prep time.
Only complaint DH has about the recipes is that if you want to mix and match (eg cook the salad only out of a particular recipe), the instructions are all mixed up as if you are cooking the whole recipe all at once. Doesn't bother me though original.gif

At the start of the book for 30 minute meals, he talks about not 'freestyling' his recipes because they have been tested numerous times as a complete package.  Like you, I cherry picked a dish from a recipe and it was difficult to follow ... I just made it up as a I went along in the end - hoping for the end result like the picture biggrin.gif

He also stipulates having a list of items available in your pantry (in jars, containers) - I guess, so you're not opening things and then, putting them in containers.  There's also a big emphasis on a liquidiser and a blender for chopping, slicing etc.  - I don't have a blender so that would definitely add to the time spent for me.
