Weird sleeping patterns *tuh*

I have weird sleeping patterns and they just get weirder. I used to sleep 9.30 - 6.30, no worries. Now, SOME nights I sleep 9.30 - 6.30, usually waking up at least twice for a drink of water. Other nights, like tonight, I sleep 9.30 - 11.00, then wake up. I feel completely awake and my brain is switched on 200%. I get up and sit reading, watching TV or surfing the net till I feel sleepy again... sometimes that's only 30 mins, other times it can be hours. It is WEIRD. I feel slightly tired the next day but perfectly functional. DH still sleeps right through and so do the kids.
My body is in weird mode. You?

Most nights I'm nowhere near sleepy enough to sleep until after midnight. On nights like tonight, I'll be up ridiculously late. A couple of weeks ago I went through a stretch of not going to bed until 3-4am, getting up at around 7am, and I felt bloody fantastic. I don't get it. If I sleep from midnight to 7, I feel like I've been hit by a bus when I wake up. But if I get only three hours sleep I feel like a million bucks.

It's 3:35am here and I am yet to feel tired enough to go to sleep.
I will fall asleep around 4am then wake at 7am. I will then look after my little one until her nap time of around 10am and often I will sleep for two hours then as well.
My sleep patterns are all screwed up and I think it is because of two factors.
1 ... Our baby has been a horrendous sleeper for the past 3 months or so (although definitely getting better now)
2 ... I don't sleep well without DH in bed with me. He works FIFO and my sleep patterns went to pieces when he started and haven't recovered. It's nothing to do with being scared, it's more to do with the lack of a warm body next to me and the sound of his breathing/snoring.
Ironically, I now don't sleep too well when he comes home as the bed is too hot with him in it and he snores too loud ... I can't win

I used to sleep from about 9.30 till 6.30-7.00, but the last month or so I'm sleeping from around midnight till 5.30.
It definitely isn't enough for me, I'm bad tempered and so tired all the time. Finding it difficult to cope with the work/home balance on so little sleep
