Hi all,

I am 37 weeks pregnant and in agony. I can barely walk, my hands and feet feel like they are riddled with arthritis and are quite swollen. Its the being unable to walk part that is upsetting me the most though. I am seriously hobbling. Has anyone else experienced this? I never had this with my first pregnancy and taking it easy isn't really an option - DH is away for work, In laws are overseas and my parents are out all today and tonight. To top it off I feel really sick in the stomach.

I have called my ob and am waiting on a call back but am hoping someone on EB can tell me they experienced similar so I know its all "normal".

Thanks for reading

Yes well its ringing alarm bells for me hence my post - hoping my ob comes back to me soon. Baby is very active but I feel terrible.

Could you ring your midwife/delivery suite?  They might want you to come in for a check.

I had very bad fluid retention in both pregnancies, and it actually made my skin hurt! Between that and my hips, I had a lot of trouble walking.

In my case, I did have some health issues - high BP in my first pregnancy, and in my second pregnancy, diabetes. That said, none of it was life threatening, but my OB kept a close eye on me (I also had a heart specialist in my first pregnancy). I had regular urine tests to check for protein.

When I suddenly gained a few kilo's in less then a week at 37 weeks in my first pregnancy, my OB decided to induce as she was worried about pre ecclampsia, so I would definitely contact your doctor and discuss it with them. It could simply be normal swelling due to late pregnancy and hot weather, but best to be safe.

I did have the swelling in pregnancy number 2, but no high BP, so my doctors weren't as concerned.

I would be ringing obst office back and making emergency appointment.  Don't wait for ob to ring you back.

Just saw your next post - If you are also feeling really unwell, contact the delivery suite and go in and get checked out.

Thanks everyone. I don't have high BP (or I didn't as of my last ob appointment a week ago) or diabetes but there was a concern around pre eclampsia so that's in the back of my mind. Thanks for the advice, I think I'll make a couple of phone calls.

Would you believe the lift at my ob's rooms is getting fixed and its a 3 floor walk up... with a toddler... Its not my day!
