Bamboo
How to fix?

I am hoping there is someone here with experience....

I bought bamboo screening to put around our spa a few summers ago. It was smoked bamboo, so dark in colour. I varnished it on advice from the shop where I bought it, as they said this would protect the bamboo from sun damage.

It hasn't. The varnish is peeling off and the bamboo underneath is a light colour.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

My first thought was to sand back the varnish and re-appy (or maybe use a linseed oil and oil it each summer instead of varnish?) Has anyone else had the same thing happen?

Just bumping this up and asking another question....

I am keen to grow bamboo in pots to put along the edge of my fence line to gain some privacy (we have really low colour-bond fences)

Does anyone know if a 'fluffy' looking bamboo would grow in the Western Australian heat? Has anyone had any success with this?
