As the title says, any suggestions for discouraging our dog's apparent love of destroying the watering system?

We've tried converting the sprays to drip system, so there's less poking up out of the ground to look interesting enough to pull, chew, etc.

She just keeps doing it!  I'm tempted just to let the sprinkler system go, but DH isn't!

Any suggestions?  Thanks!

Citronella oil or chilli oil spread over the bits she goes for first. Citronella would supposedly discourage her from digging in a particular spots, and chilli oil 'bites' back if she decides to chew on something.

I'd also suggest a range of suitable chew toys and bones to give her something else - especially if she's under 2yo, because she'll be teething which is why chewing is so nice.

If you can, consider fencing off an area into a secure dog run, so she doesn't have quite so much time to investigate those kind of things while you're not looking. wink.gif

Thanks Spikey!

I will definitely try your advice!  She is under two, so I might try to vary the chewy toys she has just to create a bit of "interest" perhaps.

Thanks for your advice - much appreciated!  Trip to the shops is in order!

We let the damn thing go. We had a very extensive watering system installed by the previous owner, until we moved here and one dog decided he was doing good by bringing us bits of it.
Now we just bring the dogs inside in the evenings and put the sprinkler on and move it around.

Thanks FiveAus - she's actually dismantling it when it's not on.  When she's exploring the garden it's like she passes one and thinks she might give it a go!  We have managed to keep her off one of the garden beds, but the others are very accessible for a four-legged investigator!
