Hi all,

Is there anyone who has high blood pressure and is also on the pill? I'm exploring my options and thinking I might go on the pill as well to manage AF has been pretty agonising since DD2. I'm seeing my GP when he's back from his break, just wanted to hear some feedback from any EBers who have re-existing high BPs and are on the pill.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't have pre-existing hypertension (my BP is always on the high end of normal), but when I was in my 20s, the combined pill used to send my BP through the roof.   I was told I would have to be closely monitored in pregnancy as it was the oestrogen in the pill causing my BP to rise.  I was on the mini pill for years, and then successfully swapped to a low oestrogen combined pill.  As it turned out, my BP was absolutely fine in pregnancy and since I had my DDs, the combined pill no longer messes with my BP and I can take the full strength again.

My Mum has had hypertension since the age of 24 and was still able to take the pill as a method of controlling her period.  She was on beta-blockers for the hypertension at the same time.

I am on Olmatec for high blood pressure and Nordette - the pill.

No problems here and my BP is very stable.

How dogs could make children better readers

Issues around children learning to read are rarely out of the news. Which is hardly surprising – becoming a successful reader is of paramount importance in improving a child's life chances. Nor is it surprising that reading creates a virtuous circle: the more you read the better you become. But what may come as a surprise is that reading to dogs is gaining popularity as a way of addressing concerns about children's reading.
