Yes it is a safe middle class, very low crime suburb. Most of the walk is along a main thoroughfare in our suburb. There are heaps of other school kids walking home in the same direction.
My DD did this today. There is a bus she can catch home, but she insisted on giving walking a go. She started highschool this week and doesn't have any friends walking home in the same direction. She could ride a bike I guess, but it is mostly uphill. She is very sensible and has a mobile programmed with emergency numbers.
I've copped a lot of flack about letting her walk from a friend and people at work.
Just curious what other people let their children do.
