I've just opened a big packet of fresh egg noodles. There are sections that look a bit grey-ish, but they don't smell off. Is there any chance it's just globs of the flour they use to keep the noodles separate? Or is it definitely mould?

There's no use by date (bought from an Asian grocery)

Dh is bringing home a new packet from the supermarket, so we don't have to use them. I just hate to waste so much food!

When you say fresh, do you mean the kind that have to be refrigerated?

Yes, ones that have to be refrigerated. It's a 1kg packet, so they're supposed to last at least 2 meals sad.gif

If in doubt, throw it out.

Any food that requires me to question it gets thrown out, or given to the cat. ph34r.gif

Sigh, I'll feel a right dolt if it's normal presentation and I toss them...

But yes, we don't plan to use them unless someone in the know posts and says "yes, I see that all the time, all non supermarket fresh noodles look like that"...

I'd probably eat it, but I definitely wouldn't give it to my kids.

Honestly, without seeing a photo of the "globs", my first thought is that a new colony is growing on the noodles!  I'd probably throw them out, even though I hate the waste too.

I definitely wouldn't give it to the cat (or the dog). If they eat mould, you'll end up with a whopper of a vet bill.

Thanks ladies, they're gone, tossed out and replaced. We'll have a chat with the grocer next time we shop there, to work out how the should look when fresh.

I'm pretty sure that food safety regulations require any refrigerated items to have a use by date on them.  You could raise that point with the grocer.

With fresh stuff like that it's always best to err on the side of caution, I think.

I wouldn't touch it. And because I wouldn't touch it my pets would not be getting fed it either. I find that sad that people give their pets sus looking food.
