Hi Ladies,

We would like to take our girls camping in the April school holidays (for the first time) and are looking for somewhere not too far from Perth and near the beach.  I've been looking at either Yanchep, Guilderton or maybe Jurien Bay.  Guilderton looks like it is already fully booked for April and I think Jurien Bay might be a bit far.

I can't find anywhere else in Yanchep to camp but Club Capricorn and it seems to have very bad reviews on the internet!  Is it really as bad as they say?  Anyone camped there recently?  As my girls are quite young (3 & 4), I wanted somewhere that had a toilet/shower block and BBQ.  Also walking distance to the beach.  Anyone know of anywhere else that is good?

Thanks.

We have camped there twice recently, once after Christmas and in June last year.

Do you have a tent? I just ask as caravans are in the bitumen which I dont think I would like!

The toilet block is pretty basic but is clean. There are two BBQs there. powered sites are faily close to each ther and unpowered sites are pretty big.

You cant walk to the beach fromt he camping ground with littlies, it i probably about a 1 km walk. (Might not be that far but it is pretty far). There is two pools though and a kiosk with in walking distance. A normal pool and a little one, probably 4m x 2m that is only 30cm deep so the kids can have a splash in thier own. Yanchep Lagoon isnt far up the road which is good swimming for the kids.

The very very best thing about stayimg there is packing up and being home in 45 min!!!

Thanks for that!  We do have a tent.  Are the tenting sites on grassed areas?  I like the idea of being close to home in case the girls have a melt down in the middle of the night and we have to drive home or something.  I think they'll be ok but I had a friend who's first camping trip didn't go so well and she ended up driving home at 1am cos her little boy wouldn't stop screaming.

I don't mind things not being fancy - we are camping after all - but a clean shower/toilet block is preferable!  We can always drive to the beach so thats not a big deal.  Thanks for your help.

It is grassy but not the best grass. My kids always find the dirt and that is thete favorite thing about camping!

We camped a few times at Moore River as kids. It's not too far.

you could try Willowbrook in Gingin - was lovely place - no beach but stuff to do nearby.
they use to serve scones jam and cream on a Sunday morning to all the campers for free.

Only thing was the shower block was a demountable one so was flooded with water and there was a shared kitchen facilities.
But knowing that now (and if its still like that) I would be better prepared.

Stayed at Mandurah caravan park and that was fantastic as the camp sites were around the playground area.

My favourite place is a bit further away so maybe for another time.  Taunton Farm Cowaramup
(near Margaret River) best family camping place ever !

Have fun original.gif

Thx everyone.  I've booked Club Capricorn and I hope the bad reviews are wrong! If everything goes well this trip we'll expand to other areas.  Thx for all the ideas.
