I agree about the challenge finding a nice looking bed that doesn't have the foot board. DD's room is very small, so a foot end just takes up too much room and likely to have us bumping into it too often.
For DD we originally looked at this one Copenhagen style bed
, which is still my favourite but we became distrustful of buying it online as many sellers all seemed to use exactly the same picture but claim different wood or country of origin... hmm.
I also realised that a timber bed would probably go better with the current walls and curtains in her room. We've gone with a Sydney firm that promised Australian made with a headboard only. I won't name them as we're still awaiting delivery (ordered mid December) so cannot comment on the quality. The wait is longer than original ETA but we did order a mattress to go with the bed and are only paying for one delivery and apparently it's the mattress causing the hold up on the combined order.
We went with King Single if that makes a difference. DD is still a crap sleeper and ends up in our bed from about 4 or 5 am onwards. We figured getting a King single means that one of us could go to her if her future sleeping is still crap, with the bonus of not waking the other partner.
Best wishes for finding the bed you want at the price you want.
