I walked past a group of people yesterday surrounded by banners with the pink ribbon logo. They were handing out flyers and I took one as I walked past. I was horrified to find out upon reading the flyer that they're an anti-abortion group - the "breast cancer pevention institute". Apparently babies prevent breast cancer, so abortion causes it. I walked back and gave them a piece of my mind - SO misleading for them to be using the pink ribbon logo!
Oh, and apparently only full term pregnancy prevents breast cancer (and I'm not saying it doesn't have some benefits, it probably does, but that's not the point), but that's a bit of a bummer for those with premmie babies, isn't it! I suppose I should be contacting the BCN to let them know their ribbon is being used...
As the article points out, isn't the US pro-life/nutcase wing of the GOP position that an embryo/foetus is a person in its own right from the time of conception? So how is it also an organ? Doesn't this mean that if it poses a danger to the mother's life (just as in the case of a diseased appendix) it needs to be removed? This would have interesting implications for Catholic health and those who would force women to continue unviable pregnancies cause cows do it.
Just another push from the conservative Republicans to ultimately achieve legal "personhood" status from the moment of conception. It will reduce a pregnant woman to nothing more than an incubator, with no bodily autonomy and little control over her health care decisions.
The slow and steady erosion of women's rights in the USA is frightening. What is more frightening that there are enough like minded people who vote these people in to power.
Omg I'm almost I'm 33 weeks pregnant what's going to happen when I go into labour? I will be missing the biggest " organ " in my body can I live with out it?!?! Stupid idiot the sad thing is that some people are so ignorant they will actually believe her and think this.
I suppose I should be contacting the BCN to let them know their ribbon is being used...
Far out...the really sad/amusing thing about the "pregnancy prevents breast cancer" thing (and it does reduce your overall risk, but not eliminate it) is that the no-pregnancy group in the original studies were nuns. What are we supposed to do, give nuns a dispensation to have one pregnancy to protect themselves?
After the success of "Maleficent" at the box office Disney is opening their vault to re-work the classics into live-action movies, and a number of other film studios are following suit. Here are ten live-action remakes to look forward to.
