I have a spreadsheet which has all dates in the correct way (Australian) and as far as I am aware the settings for the document are set to Australia, same as the word doecument I am merging into but when I go into the word document it comes up as the American date layout.

I have been through all areas that I think are the problem and everything says Australian but obviously I amissing something, can anyone help?

Thanking you in advance.

Sounds like it has to do with the field that you are merging into in word.

When you are picking your fields to enter your data, check the formatting of the date there.  It may mean that you will have to remove the field and start again.
