Not a dad but i am wondering are fathers eligible for Aust gov parental leave if the are the primary caregiver.
I am eligible for 7 months paid maternity leave and thinking that I might let my husband have the 18 weeks so i can return to work as i am the bread winner usually (he does work and does a brilliant job I just unfortunatly earn more).

Yes, they are, assuming they meet the requirements of the scheme. You are both eligible for it. You could also arrange it so you take 8 weeks and he takes 10, but you can't both take the leave simultaneously, if that makes sense?

I think you'll find they've worded the information very carefully to use the term 'carer'. As long as you the primary, legal carer of the child in question, you're eligible
