Not a dad but i am wondering are fathers eligible for Aust gov parental leave if the are the primary caregiver.

I am eligible for 7 months paid maternity leave and thinking that I might let my husband have the 18 weeks so i can return to work as i am the bread winner usually (he does work and does a brilliant job I just unfortunatly earn more).

Yes, they are, assuming they meet the requirements of the scheme. You are both eligible for it. You could also arrange it so you take 8 weeks and he takes 10, but you can't both take the leave simultaneously, if that makes sense?

There's more info on it here: http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/s...ental-leave-pay

I think you'll find they've worded the information very carefully to use the term 'carer'. As long as you the primary, legal carer of the child in question, you're eligible original.gif

Good luck, OP!
