The Riders sits in a box in my carport gathering dust. Nobody will steal it. Can't blame them.

I used my copy as a doorstop on a very scrapey door and I admit to feeling great satisfaction when it eventually disintegrated.

I am defeated by Ulysses. I will never finish it, bored to sobs by it.

Oddly on the Tolkein question, I really disliked The Hobbit. I found it unfunny, boring and cold. Whereas I found LOTR terrifying and incredibly moving. It made me so sad it contributed to my first incident of major depression (probably a backhanded way to rec a book.) I then wondered if I'd judged The Hobbit too harshly and reread it and still hated it.

I'm in your camp. I enjoyed LOTR (except all the long winded hey nonny no songs) but cannot bring myself to finish the hobbit.
