2015 KIA RONDO (7 seater)
SLi model (Diesel)
Child seats purchased from and fitted professionally by Safe Travel Solutions in Gosford.
I had a HARD time finding any of this information for the recent model KIA Rondo in Australia so I'm going to be thorough here so that the next people considering the car have the information they need. Please excuse the long post.
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE KIA RONDO
*All 3 child restraints were fitted to the middle row because the 2 rear-row seats [3rd row] do not have anchor points.
*All 3 anchor points for the KIA Rondo are on the back of the seats in the middle row and are easy to reach and use.
*The 2014/15 KIA Rondo has isofix fittings on the two outer seats of the middle row.
*The middle seat of the middle row is almost as large as the two outer seats (slightly narrower), and all 3 seats move fore and aft independently.
*The middle seat of the middle row uses a normal sash belt with a 2-buckle process, which starts at the roof on the left side just behind the middle row, then comes down into a belt buckle on the left side of the middle passenger, then comes over the lap of the middle passenger and does up in a second belt buckle on the right side of the middle passenger.
*With 3 child seats installed, you are only able to get into the rear-row of seats by taking one of the child seats out or by climbing through the boot. This is not too difficult for children or agile adults. Much easier however if only one of the rear-row seats is in use (and the other is folded flat).
*With 3 child seats installed you can still seat 2 people in the back row at a pinch, but not easily or very comfortably. The rear row seats of a Rondo are for occasional use and I DO NOT recommend this car for people who will use the rear row frequently, especially with child seats installed.
*BOOT SPACE: With both rear-row seats folded down, boot space is ample; like in a station wagon or SUV. One rear-row seat down halves that space. With both rear-row seats up, the boot space is miniscule.
CHILD RESTRAINTS/SEATS THAT FIT THE 2015 KIA RONDO
Seat directly behind driver:
Infasecure Kompressor XT (0yrs to large 4yrs, non-isofix)
Infasecure Evolve Caprice (0yrs to large 8yrs, 5-point harness used all the way to 8yrs, non-isofix)
Seat directly behind front passenger:
Safe N Sound Hi Liner (4yrs to 8yrs Booster seat using normal lap-sash seatbelt).
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT SEAT CONFIGURATION
*We tried very hard to fit 2 Evolve Caprice seats for our two eldest in with the Kompressor for the new baby, because our older 2 kids are autistic; so keeping them in the 5-point harness until they are 8yrs would have been ideal for us. This was definitely NOT possible. The wings simply do not fit.
*IN OTHER WORDS: You can fit 3 child seats in the KIA Rondo, BUT AT LEAST ONE OF THEM MUST BE A BOOSTER. So this car would not work for someone with toddler twins and a new baby, or infant/toddler triplets, unless the twins/triplets were already at the booster seat stage.
*The configuration of child seats that we used were chosen because they are among the narrowest available in Australia, and together they fit into the Rondo very tightly. However, 2 boosters with 1 newborn/infant or toddler seat should work easily, as should 3 boosters.
*We wanted to put the booster seat in the middle seat but this too was impossible. With the Evolve on the side behind the front passenger, it pushed the booster over too far to the right and the booster ended up sitting ON TOP of the seat belt that you'd need to do up each time. The booster only seems to work on the side seats with this child restraint combination.
*IMPORTANT- putting the Hi Liner booster behind the front passenger seat made it VERY easy to do up and undo the seatbelt buckle. The space between the Hi Liner and the Evolve is wonderfully ample in this specific configuration.
*Rear-view vision with these seats in place is slightly encumbered but workable.
