I'm new to the forums and am curious to know whether anyone has had an egg collection where no eggs were found?

I had my first egg collection this week and the Dr advised that there were no eggs to be collected.

I had gonal f, orgalutran and ovidrel as trigger (after trying  unsuccessfully for six months on clomid with pregnyl for trigger).  I have PCO and my husband has poor sperm morphology.

I have an appointment next week with my Dr to discuss next steps, but I want to know whether this is unusual or typical of IVF first time around.

I'm sorry, it's a very disappointing outcome.
Sadly it's not uncommon for patients with PCO.
Your FS should go through the options for the next stim during your next appt. Often it's just a matter of finding the protocol/ doses that are right for you.

ETA: Should add that the first stim is always a trial run, regardless of dx.

I'm sorry.

How many follicles were present? Yes with PCO/PCOS there is a risk of empty follicle syndrome.

I don't think there is a typical first stim cycle - it really is just a trial run.

This pretty much happened to me first time (I had 12 follicles and only 2 eggs recovered- and one was immature) -I panicked IVF would never work- my FS swapped me to menopur and upped the dose and I got 13 the second go so don't panic. I read a lot into it- my other worry was I was resistant to ovidrel and I wanted to trigger with pregnyl but in the end the ovidrel did the job second time- I think my issue was the stim drug.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies.  You have made me feel a bit less panicked!

domestically~challenged - I had 12 follicles. I was completely shocked when they said nothing was found!

FS appointment is next Thursday so hopefully I will get some answers and a way forward for the next round.

Thank you again for putting my mind at ease.  I thought I was a complete freak of nature for a while there!

I agree that the first cycle is often like a trial run. Very dissapointing for you though :(  I am sure your docs will have some great ideas about what to try next.
Wishing you the best of luck for next time.

yes this happened to me too, the first cycle is a trial run to see how you react to a certain level of drugs. On your next cycle they will probably increase them and you will respond better! They need to start out low just in case you are a super responder and create a huge amt of eggs first time around.

it is so frustrating, but just try and stay positive and cross fingers for next time!
