Not quite sure where this topic belongs. I was wondering if anyone had had any success using hypnotherapy to deal with an anxiety issue? Specifically fear of flying, but interested in any experiences you have had with hypnotherapy or similar therapies, and if you would recommend anyone in particular in Sydney?

Sorry, no personal experience here. However it makes sense as relaxation is a key to overcome any fear. Hypnotherapy teaches you relaxation skills that you can self practice. Hypnosis allows us to bypass the conscious mind (the one which tries to decide what is safe and what is a threat for us), and allows us direct access to the subconscious where change can begin to take place. Hypnosis can make you think more rational, and more in control of your response, and rather than uncontrollably panicking and worrying. As the real phobia is only in mind, you can overcome any phobia with hypnosis.  However, if you are being treated by a medical practitioner already to overcome anxiety, you will be asked to contact your GP for their permission to treat.

Hi Bluesilk

I have used hypnotherapy to tackle anxiety and I have had a moderate degree of success.  I used purchased some downloads from an internet site that has hundreds of different scripts to choose from.  Let me know if you are interested and I will PM you the website.
