Not sure. Pell has. Apparently the ABC "should be investigated" for an unrelenting smear campaign against him.

Yeh. Right. The *ABC* should be investigated.

Innocent until proven guilty is probably a better way of looking at Pell.

His behaviour insofar as protecting predators goes is on the public record. So, no he's not innocent.

I hope that survivor has kept his life, and is very proud to have done such a brave thing. It’s because of people like him, that others have taken his example and done the same.

Only Miranda Devine and Andrew Bolt.

I believe them too. They came across in a very raw and honest way as broken individuals. What - and who - broke them. They should be called to account. It's not right - there should be justice for them.

I watched this too, with very little surprise that finally something was being investigated about this man.  But what stuck me, as it always does when watching reports (mainly on 7.30 I must say) was the broken, broken men who are victims of this vile behaviour.  Such betrayal as a child leaves such a mark, I felt such sadness.  The reporter said that they acknowledged that the abuse couldnt be entirely to blame for their paths in life, but my goodness , what that abuse does to a small child is catastrophic.  the victims and the witness were believable to me- i hope justice will prevail and again I  am not surprised that these allegations have been levelled against Pell.

No wonder that vile excuse for a human being wouldn't come back for the RC, knowing that he was being investigated himself.

He knew it was too dangerous considering how close the accusations were getting, of actual abuse by himself, not just covering up the abuse by other priests.

Suppression orders lifted.

Pell was found guilty.

Yes, I heard that and was going to post but got into trouble for it last time - glad it is over (well the legal aspect) but I am wondering if more charges will be laid?

Pell will appeal.

Of course he will.

Selfish b*st*rd.

Wonder what dear Tones thinks?

I know people who'll be devastated by this. Of course they won't believe it and will say the victim was paid to do this. (Though honestly if the victim can be bought I'd assume the church can pay him more than whoever else could be paying him)

There was a media blackout about this case.

I want Pell to die in jail.  I have completely lost faith in the Catholic Church - my church - and it's because of this.

I hope the victims/survivors know that we as a community care for and support them. And believe them.

I am so sorry they’ve had to experience this incredibly unjust system in order to find some justice.

I am speechless reflecting on the enormity of the pain this man has caused.

May he rot in jail.

I think the Catholic Church should stop funding his defence if they still are.

Wasn’t there a suppression order because there was as another trial, what happened to that?

That's my question, too.

Here we go:

Quote

First, the Department of Public Prosecutions said it would discontinue its prosecution of the second trial, known as the Ballarat or swimmers trial, and that therefore the suppression order, which was in place to ensure that the second trial was not prejudiced, could be lifted.

I am presuming now there is a conviction it is open to talk about it?

in this day in age suppression orders make no sense but if it helps a conviction then so be it

No, the convictions occurred in December 2018. The fact of the conviction has been suppressed since then because there was to be a trial of further allegations against him. Those charges have now been dropped and the suppression order therefore lifted.
