When to go to physio post c-sec?

2nd baby, 1st csec. When should i book an appt for physio? i am concerned about muscle separation after two big tummies (#1-huge baby, #2-huge amount of fluid).

Does your hospital have physio classes? You can usually do that while you're still in hospital and they check muscle separation and give you some exercises

I asked my GP a few weeks ago when should I go to the physio for my really terrible muscle separation and she laughed and said "What will a physio do, it will fix itself." Maybe just call up, tell them the situation and make an appointment based on their advice. This is what I'm going to do.

I saw a physio while I was still in hospital and because my separation was huge (10!) she got me wearing tubi grip bandages straight away and strongly recommended that I buy the src recovery shorts to provide additional support. She gave me a list of things not to do, ie not to pick up anything heavier than my newborn daughter and some simple exercises to do. When I saw her about 4 weeks later my separation had decreased to 5. Hence I really do think that it's important to see a physio as soon as possible to start the recovery process.

I called up some random local physios and asked if they had tubigrip and bought some from them. It's going good so far. Was about $30 for 2 sizes. I got j and k. You can find out online what size fits your tummy.  You have to wear them folded over once but they do mold to you. Anyway. ..the physio can probably also advise when to come see them in general post birth. I literally googled my suburb and post pregnancy and came up with physios that looked after this area in particular.

My women's specialist physio recommends 6 weeks post natal. By that point the separation has repaired as much as it's likely to naturally so you can then assess how bad it is and work on a plan to resolve it.
I'm 3 days post birth of number 2 and have a significant separation. I'm also wearing tubigrip like c.sanders.

I've been seeing physio throughout my pregnancy for other things but if I were you I'd perhaps consider an appointment before baby even, especially if you won't be seeing physios in hospital post birth.

Your gp is wrong. Definitely book yourself in and get checked out.

Also see if you can see a women's physio, they have extra expertise in all things post birth.

Yep. Never actually thought to ask though! I did last time too, for the first couple of weeks.

A physio saw me in hospital and gave me the tubi grip then I saw a special womens physio maybe a week after and I was straight into SRC recovery shorts..
I also wore the tubi grip to bed as that was the time my muscles relaxed the most..

I'd see them 6 weeks post birth, that way they can asses for Diastasis at a point where it probably won't get any smaller on it's own. I had 3-4 finger gap after birth with my first and went down to a 2.5 finger gap at 6 weeks which they gave me exercises. I only got it down to 1 finger width before I got pregnant again.
