I had another interview this week. In the time it took to drive home, the hiring manager phoned the recruiter to say I was unsuccessful. No feedback given.
Fair enough. But if they knew this, why not finish off the interview indicating as much? Why go through a drawn out explanation of 'next steps' and their selection process when I'd already been ruled out?
I know there's protocol around this stuff - but I have a lot more respect for hiring managers who are able to maturely advise that, on balance, there are several other applicants that more closely fit the brief, but it's been a pleasure meeting with you.
It all feels like such a charade
