My 9mo is currently cutting his 4th tooth. Everytime he cuts a tooth he gets sick. This time has been off the chart. Hes had days of temps, snotty snotty nose and cranky temperament.

What does everyone else do for their bub when they struggle so badly with teething?

Cue the brigade who will come in and tell you that he's actually got a virus and it's just happened to coincide with a tooth each time.  Of course, do make sure it's just teething related and not something serious like an ear infection.

Drugs. Lots of drugs. Buy the large bottle of panadol or nurofen in your baby's preferred brand and flavour, and dose him as needed. Teething gel before meals or feeds. Cold fruit or vegetables to gnaw on to help relieve some pain. Cold teethers if he likes them. Damp washers in the freezer for him to chomp on. Mainly grit your teeth, cuddle him, give him drugs, and remember that it's every tooth through is one more out of the way.

Yes, teething was hell for my DD. I celebrated every damn tooth that came through, and was so relieved once all 20 were through at about 3yo.

If he's got a temp and a snotty nose, he sounds pretty sick. I'd be giving panadol and nurofen according to the directions on the pack and then taking him to the GP if he hasn't improved in three or so days.

Trip to the GP just to double check he hasn't picked up on these horrid bugs floating around, but other than that seriously stock up on paracetamol/nurofen & teething gel.

Mine has got 2 more teeth left until his full quota - which are coming through now & omg, its hell. He has severe Nappy rash to boot (so if your is also prone I suggest buying a lot of your preferred Nappy rash cream - zinc based seems to work best here).

We also get a runny nose with teeth arriving, but no temperature - it's actually not as common a side effect as I was led to believe.

So turns out he wasn't just cutting his 4th tooth he was cutting his 4th, 5th 6th and 7th tooth. Three in one week. He's been much better since and now has the 8th tooth as well.

No wonder he was so miserable! I hope he has a good few weeks coming up.
