I've noticed a few other posters mentioning cheer lately and thought I'd set up a thread to talk all things cheer.

My youngest (she'll be turning 7 next month) started rec cheer last year, and semi competitive this year (1 cheer class per week, plus she does an extra tumble class), and 2 competitions a year.  We're thinking of stepping up to competitive cheer next year (2 x 2 hr classes per week, and 5-6 comps).

My daughters do cheer, the older one did rec cheer last year and comp cheer this year.
The younger one was 6 this year and is doing rec cheer. She is thinking she may do gymnastics or ballet next year. I like dance and cheer because there is no waiting around for everyone to have thier turn like gymnastics.
So far they both really like it.

My 10yo DD does competitive cheer . She's really enjoying it. Like your DD OP she does one class a week and one tumble class a week with 2-3 comps a year.
