I am originally from Sydney so struggling to find good venues to host my baby's first birthday in Canberra. We are thinking of hosting  a party for about 40 adults and 20 kids. Any suggestions for a good park ( with shade options and toilets) or any other venue where we can all eat a meal together, cut a cake etc with some space for the kiddies run around ?

Nellie melba hall is great to hire as it has a proper playground in the outside area but often has a long waiting list. (Probaby not needed for a 1 year old though!)

Other community centres are good as well. The Palmerston Community Centre in gungahlin is great as well and fully fenced. It has a large sandpit and big indoor room with trestle tables and kitchen etc.

Have a search for others in your area. (the fencing makes it all much easier to relax and they usually charge around $30 per hour)

Chisholm community centre is nice for birthday's. It has a kids playground out the back (all fenced) and a kitchen, table and chairs too. If you didn't want to cook, you could bring in catering. Been there to a few events and it's been really nice :)
