Hi, my 6 year old needs to have his adenoids and tonsils out. The surgeon we have been referred to has an out of pocket expense of $900 .... this seems extreme!
We want to go private to do it ASAP .... is this just the going rate? I’d be interested in your experiences with Perth surgeons.

We were that for grommets and adenoids in Melbourne back in 2010.

My son had this done in Melbourne last week, it was $495 out of pocket.

Is that for anesthetic? The anesthetist is often excluded from PHI, and what you have quoted out of pocket sounds about right for that.

No. That is just the surgeon $$.
The anesthetist is fully covered under HBF.

My son is going in for his second set soon. $350 oop for the surgeon. In Melbourne though sorry but that does seem high.

Ask for a list of no gap provider ENTs from HBF? (If you’ve got the time to perhaps consult someone else).
