5 weeks out and i’m dithering on a boy’s name. We’ve been 90% sure about Cameron, with Ethan as a backup but I’m just not SURE.

Are there other names we should have in the mix? Which do you prefer out of Cameron and Ethan? Middle name will be John, surname starts with W.

I prefer Ethan, but it's more common than Cameron.

Cameron was on the shortlist for my DD's name if we had a boy. Ethan was DH's pick, so we love both names.

I feel neutral about both of them. Probably slightly prefer Ethan. My suggestion is Declan John.

Cameron. Especially with John. Ethan John brought Elton John to mind immediately for me.

Evan?

They were both on our short list.

I think Cameron goes better with John, but I find it really hard to pick between them as a name alone.

Both great names and both go well with John. Cameron has always been a favourite for me.

Also absolutely love Nathaniel, nn Nate.

Nice to have a few names so you can decide which one suits him best when you see him

Ethan.

I don’t like last names as first names.

Cameron has been a first name for a very long time - doesnt seem 'surname as first name' type name to me.

Ethan and Cameron are both good names -   I slightly prefer Cameron and  I agree with PP about Ethan John being bit too like Elton John, that was my first thought on the combo too.

Cameron will get Cam for short, I haven't heard a shortened version of Ethan. My vote is for Ethan, but I like Cameron a lot as well. I think when he's born and you see his little face, you will decide on the spot which it is.

I have an Ethan so I am biased. Love the name Ethan. I do also like Cameron though.

Even though it was a top 3 name when he was born he only had one other in his whole grade through school (currently in grade 7). My eldest also had one other in his grade with his name and his name wasn't even top 50. So popularity doesn't necessarily mean that much these days with such a larger variety of names being used than before :)

I like the sound if Cameron but I vote for Ethan because Cameron means 'crooked nose' and Ethan means 'strong, safe and long lived.' I know that not everyone looks into name meanings though. They both sound beautiful.

I really dislike Ethan so Cameron gets my vote. A few little Ethans in the earlier daycare, kindy and classroom and kids would always call them EFAN, because many couldn't make the 'th' sound. Awful.
