That sounds so challenging Fingerscrossed. I guess doing ivf is good as you learn things along the way about your body, your eggs and sperm but to not have a difinitive answer would be really frustrating. You are right though, you did get pregnant.  That's interesting, i didn't know different stimulation meds could effect egg quality. I wondered last night about the different meds i had this time. Last time the stim was menopur which i think my Dr uses most commonly.  It has both fsh and lh so this time I used gonal f (fsh only) and added luveris (lh) after a few days.  I have read that menopur may work better for older women so i wonder if that may be a reason i responded well last time but not this time.
Dr also mentioned growth hormone and dhea as possibilities for next time,  have you tried either of those? I just stated re reading It Starts with a the Egg as I'm sure there's some things in there i haven't put in place yet. Have you read that?

This might become an epic post sorry.. i called the clinic earlier because the bleeding has started again.  I wanted to ask if i should keep using the E2 pessaries as i believe amongst other things they help support the lining. Nurse was going to check with Dr. Well Dr actually just called me, she's never done that before. She now strongly advises against going ahead with the IUI as my lining is trying to shed it will be suboptimal conditions for implantation. I asked if there is anything we can do to support the lining, there isn't and i shouldn't use the pessaries after having the trigger. We talked for a while, Dr saying she's extremely uncomfortable doing it, me saying I'm uncomfortable not trying. In the end she agreed to do it but I'm now having doubts myself. The bleeding is a bit heavier and i guess if my whole lining does shed then there is no chance.  But it might not! I think I'll see how it goes this afternoon and call back. If i do cancel i need to do that before they thaw the sperm. Far out.

Hi fingers crossed, seems like you have a pretty good way for tracking ovulation but a bummer that your sperm and egg don't normally like each other. But the did come together once before so you never know ...

Mara I have read most of the relevant sections of that book many times. I did most of it in the end but progressively - got rid of plastics in the kitchen, improved my diet, added supplements inc dhea (unclear if it helped from a numbers perspective). I do physically feel fitter than I ever have and maintained energy through IVF cycles so that has helped me stay positive

Oh gosh, damn that bleeding. I think both you and your dr have valid points now so you probably just need to trust your gut now

Oh Mara you are having such a rotten run, I just wanna give you a big hug. I can't say which way I'd go this time but I wish you all the best either way, be that luck if you go ahead or peace with your decision if you cancel and try again with another round. I'm glad you will have your friend to look after you, take care xx

Thankyou girls xx
Really hard but i agreed to cancel it. I had a good chat with the nurse who is really lovely. She expects a full period now and said that blood kills sperm, so even if I'm still just spotting it's really stacked against me.  Of course now in the last hour the bleeding seems to have slowed. Oh well I'm focusing on the next cycle now.

I will definitely keep reading the book and be more dedicated.  I can without doubt make improvements to my health in the next couple of months. I'd love to feel as well as you Ck:)I might even see a naturopath while I'm here.

Thanks again for the support, Jelly I think I feel a kind of cranky peace, that will have to do for now :)

Mara - I used Gonal F and the FS said we would try menopur next time to try and get better quality eggs.

The only other thing the FS recommended is taking Coq10, to help egg quality as well. Still taking it now.

I have read it starts with an egg, it freaked me put and I made some big changes. Replaced plastic with glass/metal/wood. Changed all my cleaning products to eco friendly / non chemical. Changes my body wash and shampoo, moisturiser, face wipes to non chemical ones. Also changed to cook more food, eat more vegetables, less processed food.

I can't really say if it's made any difference but I've been doing all that for the last 6 Months. And like CK said I've had the energy to cope with the miscarriage and everything else in life and I am sure its because I had a good base from all the healthy food. Who knows about the chemicals but it makes me feel better.

So sorry that you ended up having to cancel, at least now the decision is made and you can look towards the next cycle. Hope you can relax with you friend after a tough day xxx

Well I did retest today just to see if my line was stronger with FMU which it was so I'm all good with POAS now and don't feel the need to keep going. I did call the clinic today to ask about having an earlier bt and was told I can do it Friday but that will mean needing to do a repeat one. So if I waited til Tuesday it would only be one? Not sure why but I'll just go with it. I said I'll go Friday and get repeat if needed. I'm hoping a strong line already will mean good numbers, assuming I have a nice little sticky one.

Hey Fingerscrossed. Hmm another vote for menopur then. I might be planning drugs tomorrow and taking them home with me next week.  I think i will push for the same as the first time, just cetrotide and menopur and think about dhea and growth hormone.

Thats great you've done all of that, im pretty good with products but did have a clean out of plastics, I'll get a bit stricter with that.  I have still been having one coffee a day, but i didn't this morning and won't again. I can definitely eat better and do more walking.

It's frustrating you can't see the difference from your efforts but after 6 months you must be pretty clean and energy is a great indicator I think. You're doing everything that can be done and have yourself in the best position for out to work. I'll be with you on the next cycle xx

Of course right after cancelling the bleeding stopped. I think unlikely Dr will be swayed again.

Oh Jelly that's awesome! That's so much darker, fantastic! Doing a test before the long weekend would be great, I'm would be keen for a repeat test too just because i love to see those numbers :)
Congratulations!!! So happy ☺

Oh Mara sorry to hear this hasn't worked this time. I know you must have gotten very energised leading up to your EPU so it's hard to not feel deflated. I must have read previous messages incorrectly but I thought your doctor didn't want to continue treatment so I'm glad I was wrong! Despite these failures, there is encouragement in that your FS is likely learning more about you with each one and can hopefully tailor a protocol that will be best for you next time. Glad your friend is with you, definitely plan something nice to do together x

Jelly that 2nd test is looking very good! I doubt you'd need to do anymore. I am surprised that your clinic would only do one beta, I kind of thought the minimum was 2 tests as the most important thing is to check hcg is rising. I had my 2nd yesterday which was almost 4000, 5days after getting 450, which means doubling is happening every 38 hours. Still, they want to do one more test in a week. The waiting seemingly never ends!

Totally off-topic but I heard one of you mention a long weekend coming up which made me turn to google as there's no long weekend where I am. Don't know how I didn't know that not all states/territories are equal in their public holiday allocations and that mine (NSW) is on the short end. What outrage!  Haha, says the stay-at-home mum

Happy Wednesday all!

Thanks Dreamweaver and congratulations on your beta, things are looking good.

Sorry to be the pest lately, does anyone have any experience with growth hormone? Dr initially was against it due to cancer risks, now she's recommending it, i think just to give me options. She's not a fan of DHEA, i don't know why but there seems to be so much evidence for it I'm going to ask for it. I think Mella might agree!
Thanks for any info/ opinion. I'll go have a read up now,i couldn't bring myself to last night. Btw, the bleeding has completely stopped. Too late now though.

Happy Wednesday xx

Me again.

Dr amazed me and suggested trying to fit in a couple of IUI's before another IVF. Could be difficult logistically but worth trying, I'm really happy with that. Depending on cycle, flights and work we could be trying in a couple of weeks.
Back to donor shopping to have another in the bank.

Dr ok'd DHEA but didn't write a script, I'm following her up on it, might see if a GP can prescribe it?

Oh man I just started writing an epicly long post and then accidentally deleted it 🤦🏼‍♀️ So I’m going to respond quickly and I’ll be back later to respond to everyone ☺️

Wow, so much happening. Sorry for the lack of posts, I’ve just finished dreaded nightshift.

Mara, Oh my gosh I’m so sorry to hear about everything you’ve been through the last few days! It’s such a roller coaster, hope you’re holding up okay. Sending lots of love and positive vibes... I know from these forums that you shine positivity so don’t stop now 😘 The IUI road might be a good thing, especially if it gives you a few extra try’s before heading into another IVF cycle! & yes, I’m all for DHEA! I don’t have a huge amount of experience with it but I do believe that it helped improve the quality of the poor little eggs that I do have & we ended up with a better fertilisation rate and our first successful transfer, so I recommend it ☺️

Congrats Jelly, that’s a beautiful line! My clinic only did one beta too, which I didn’t think much of initially, but now makes me a little worried because I don’t know how my hcg levels are tracking... I feel like throwing up everything I look at so hopefully that’s a good sign. Will wait until our scan in a week and a bit. Good luck with everything!

Will be back to reply to everyone tonight, I hope everyone is doing well xx

Turned out to be a longer reply than I anticipated 😂

Hey Mella, thankyou. I do think of you re the DHEA, who knows if thats what actually did it but you certainly had a great cycle and far better than the previous one!

I know how the dreaded night shift feels, i hope you're managing ok and not feeling too extra tired. Rest up. I guess feeling nauseous is a good sign, but hopefully manageable x I'll be thinking of you for the scan! xx

Thought I'd make sure I'm organised for my BT in the morning and put my pathology request form in my bag so I don't forget it. I've just noticed 2 things that have me worried they are going to turn me away and say they can't do it. It's dated the 12th (original date) so I'm worried they will say they can't do it earlier. It also seems to be specific to my capital city pathology service rather than my local one and even though they're linked I'm not sure if they'll say they can't do it for that reason (previous request forms I've had have been different to this one, with both listed on them). Of course tomorrow is the one day I can't get someone to cover me while I pop out of work and I will have to go in before I start which is before the clinic opens so I can't contact them and ask them to fax a new request through. Why didn't I look at it until now?

Oh Jelly I'm so excited for you.

I think the request form shouldn't matter, not sure about the date, I'd almost consider just crossing it out and writing the date above. In saying that it was your clinic who said you could go tomorrow, so it shouldn't be a problem. I think you could be fine if you explain the situation?
I hope so omg. Any chance you can go at lunch if need be?

#66 Jelly11

Posted 07 March 2019 - 07:46 PM

I won't really be getting a proper lunch break tomorrow (not that my regular 15-20min would be long enough anyway) so can't do that. I'm hoping they'll still do it so I'll definitely go in before work and hopefully it will be ok but I'll be worried about it until I know. I'll try not to stress too much though, I guess if I can't then I'm only going back to the original plan, it won't really change anything, just more waiting around.

#67 dreamweaver80

Will your clinic be open in the morning if the pathology lab needs to ring them? All of the ones that I've gone to in my city open at 7 which is earlier than any pathology lab I've ever found. Not sure if that's the case everywhere. Then again, I've always only done BT (and everything else) at the clinic so you might just need to ignore me!
Mara, I'm guessing she doesn't want to wait until lunch because they'd surely never get the results back before the end of the day. The latest time you can do a blood test with my clinic is like 8.30 to get the results back that day.
Everything aside, I think you'll be fine Jelly and I'm sure you'll get those great numbers tomorrow! Good luck xx

Pathology opens at 7:30 which is when I'll be there, clinic doesn't open til 8 and sometimes don't open phone lines til a bit later.

Hi Jelly,

Understand you're feeling anxious. It's an important day.

My advice is - Just breathe xxx

Posted 07 March 2019 - 08:18 PM

jelly- they are beautiful lines, hopefully your beta tomorrow is amazing.

afm- I've spent the week battling with super late onset OHSS. that started 5dp5dt, ended up in hospital on sunday with shortness of breath and ascites, look bout 4 months pregnant. had a beta done in there that was 22. had my official beat 2.5 days later and it had tripled to 66. so i said it was fantastic as it had tripled, but of course not over 100 so they are hesitant to get excited. so have another follow up beta tomorrow to see what its doing. i spoke to our FS on the weekend with the 22 and he said its not the number but what its doing thats important.

fingers crossed all is fine and this is our long awaited rainbow baby.

Hi Jelly, I get why you might be a bit be a bit nervous but I think you will be right tomorrow to get the beta, and I am inclined to agree with mara that you could just cross out the date. And I'm sure people travel all the time and need to turn up to other branches of pathology. Best of luck, hoping to hear some great numbers from you

Mrsp you really have had a tough run. Ohss sounds awful, I hope you are feeling much better now. Really pleased to hear your beta tripled and will be crossing fingers and toes for another great growth number for you tomorrow. It's definitely your turn to catch a break. Hope dh is doing well too

Oh Mrs P, sending lots of luck your way this way this morning. A good friend of mine’s beta started at 15 and he’s now a bubbling 8 year old. A very nerve racking time but it can happen 🤞🤞

Jelly - hope everything is ok for you to get your beta this morning.

Mara - I’m not sure if you remember Hopeful but she used growth hormone for a couple of her cycles and used it when she got her BFP. For me, I don’t think DHEA made a difference but DH’s sperm for that round was also highly fragmented so not sure that’s a fair indication. I’m using something called testogel next cycle for 2 weeks prior to stimming, I haven’t read much about it yet but FS has said that it could help us. I’m also taking 300mg ubiquinol (CoQ10) daily, vitamin C, vitamin E and eating a low carb diet to hopefully help with my egg quality.

Jelly that's excellent. Thank goodness it went smoothly, i will be thinking of you all day xxxx

MrsP wow you have been through a lot. I'm thinking of you too xxx Joany mentions MsHopeful above, i remember she had low betas initially, it was really stressful watching the numbers but all was well in the end xx

Joany, thanks for your info, I do remember mshopeful but i dont remember the growth hormone, that's interesting. Dr suggested it earlier in the week but after making the plan to try iui she has said it won't fit. I'm not sure how long it is taken for if i end up doing another ivf cycle,  but i will ask again if we get there. Dr said i could take dhea but I'm having trouble getting a script from her. I'll call the clinic again today. I do have some at home that i ordered online but i don't know if it's the same as we get from the compounding chemist. It may not help but id like to give it a try. I've not heard of testogel, I'll look it up.  Thankyou for your advice, i think I'm on all the right supplements but can improve my diet. It sounds like you and DH are doing everything you need and will be in a great position for success when you next try xxx

Fingerscrossed your advice made me smile, and breathe xxx

Oooooo, will be waiting to hear your results Jelly! Very nice of them to bump you up the queue. When will you get the call? I'm sure there's not one bit of your concentration on work today.

MrsP, sorry to hear of your OHSS. I've never gone through it but it does sound truly horrendous. I would definitely be more positive than hesitant about those beta results, they're good in my opinion. Tripling even! All the best for your 3rd test tomorrow.

Hope you all have a nice weekend and Happy International Women's Day! We're all amazing and strong and should be celebrated everyday but a special worldwide shoutout is nice too.
