Firstly I just want to point out that I think low levels of fluoride in our drinking water is beneficial, and I also brush my teeth with standard fluoridated toothpaste. So I am not anti-fluoride.
However everytime I go to the dentist for a simple scale and clean, they automatically apply the topical fluoride (which is incredibly concentrated), without asking me first, and then charge me $30-$50 for it. Despite the fact that most studies find a benefit only in medium-high risk populations:
"From the evidence examined by the panel, it was determined that people over the age of six with low caries risk should not be given fluoride adjuncts, as the benefit is negligible."
I have heard that dentists are starting to follow this advice, rather then blindly throwing high-dose fluoride goop into every patients' mouth, and while I dont mind getting it occasionally, I dont want it every single time. Especially as I like to keep my teeth in great shape, and get a scale and clean every 3-6 months.
So I was hoping for some recomendations in the Perth metro area, (I prefer NOR but would travel SOR), of any good dentists that dont automatically apply it because it's 'part of the package'. Or at least a dentist that asks you first.
