4 month old absolutely hates nap/bed time. Screams even just being in the room.

I had a baby that slept well at night but not through the day, and when she did daytime sleep it was only for 45 mins.

I just did whatever was needed to help her sleep - whether it was holding her, taking her for a walk in the pram or carrier. I gave up on any idea of routines or self settling. We had to rock her to sleep, every sleep, for 18 months.

However at 18 months she did learn to go off to sleep on the cot by herself with no crying, so it didn’t last forever.

My next baby you could just wrap him, put him in the cot and he’d close his eyes and go to sleep. He still needs more sleep than DD ever did and we have periodically gone through stages with DD where she struggled to get off to sleep and would need extra reassurance, some meditation etc.

I agree that it is wise to get medical checks and seek help from a sleep consultant, but I think it can be reassuring to know that every child is different and your baby doesn’t have to be on a perfect routine at an early age.
