I bought hemming tape after my attempts to take ds’s school trousers had me in tears, but it has just occurred to me that I then won’t be able to let them down when he grows. Is there an easy solution?

That iron on stuff?

I my experience it will let itself down within days.  So if your son grows fast enough... well....

Do you mean the iron on or sticky type? If iron-on, it can be removed by warming it with an iron.

I use Fashion Tape! Has to be that brand though - I find other brand aren't as sticky.

Iron on hemming tape is also ‘iron off’. When you put it on, I recommend an ironing cloth (or old thin tea towel or similar if you don’t have one) over the top when applying or you can get shiny patches on the fabric, especially if it has polyester in it, as you have to hold the iron in place for a while.

If you do iron the pants regularly, be careful not to iron the hem or it will come down.

Thank you lovelies.

If it all comes apart I will just pay someone, I tried so hard, but the fabric is so thick and the legs are sooo skinny I couldn’t get my tiny hands in to do it without swearing and crying.

Not sure if i bought a crap brand or not, but it looked terrible so I managed to pull it apart just using my hands. Clearly it wasn't going to survive ds anyway. And I have hand sewed them both. Its not perfect, certainly not as lovely as the many videos I've watched, but its not too bad either and will hopefully hold up.

YouTube has great tutorials on how to hem pants simply and easily. I had no idea (!!) but followed the instructions and got good results.
