Good on you OP for seeking a second opinion and confirming your hesitations. I hope the extraction goes smoothly when the time comes.

Best advice I ever got from a dentist was to focus on wriggling my toes. It can really help distract your brain from a dentist doing numbing stuff, needles, the extraction activity etc.

Last update... had the tooth out this morning, and he was a little trooper. The dentist was awesome and had it out in no time and he was up and out the door within a few minutes of having the mask taken off his face. I've given him nuerofen every 4 hours as advised, and have made sure he has had soft easy food whenever he wants it, but he isn't complaining of any pain at all and is acting completely normal. Such a champion. Bought him a new book that he wanted today as a treat (love that he sees a new book as a treat!) and the tooth fairy has now visited so hopefully tomorrow continues to be pain free for him.
Thanks everyone for the advice... really appreciate it.
