I have two young desexed female dogs. One has been doing assertiveness training recently, and since then, the other young dog has been trying to mount her like they’re mating. I’m assuming it’s a dominance thing. Is that right?

I have no idea. But that's the thread title of the year for me.
I'm just surprised the Gargoyle is not involved.

Gargoyle is velcroed to DS1. He did try humping one of the chooks today, but it didn’t go very well for him.

According to a very reputable and highly educated dog trainer I used to see with my dog (who is a girl, and a humper) it is not typically a dominance thing.
Our dog humps usually when she’s over excited- eg the kids have her all worked up playing silly chasing games or something, we have visitors that she loves (my mum, my sister) etc.
The other main reason, according to our trainer at least, is the dog is unsure.
Maybe your young dog is unsettled by the change in behavior of the other?

That makes sense, Lou bags. She’s used to the other dog being very submissive, and is a bit iffy about her getting extra training.
