My daughter has a formal coming up. She purchased a dress online but the fit isn't great and she isn't sure she likes the dress. I have offered to have the dress tailored to fit her better. The quality of the dress is not fantastic.

Does anyone have an online shops they can recommend? I need the dress in the next week or so. Australian sites preferred, with a good return policy.

We are in Melbourne so any good dress shops that can be recommended would be great.

My daughter is looking at a long dress, spaghetti straps, triangle cut on the bodice (neckline), long skirt (possibly with a split up the side). One colour.  A concept dress is here. My daughter is slender, tall, no boobs. She is 16. Size 6-8.

Price - up to $150.

TIA!

Loads of dresses at ASOS. Great returns policy. My friend guys 2 sizes of the same dress if she is unsure of the fit then sends back the second one

Some long black slip dresses here:

I am in Sydney - but this Melbourne store is popular with Melbourne friends (also online)

https://bariano.com....llections/maxis

The Iconic has quite a few brands that are popular for formal. And you can't beat their return policy.

Many girls buy from this store, but having 2 teens who have tried things from there - it is hit and miss for quality and fit:

And dont discount hiring!!

** Edited for budget**

Good luck!  My eldest went to 5 formals in Year 12!!!

I second the idea to hire, eg

In thinking more about it - I would honestly hire a dress.

Some here in Sydney you can go and try on - am certain there will be places in Melbourne as well that do the same.

Here is another one - they all post and the bigger ones are great with helping sizing etc.

I ordered a short turnaround formal dress from showpo, and the quality was surprisingly good!

Otherwise, I've used glam corner before, but the risk is if you're shorter a lot of the dresses are super long!

This  brand is sold at Myer.  I have also ordered directly and they were good

HelloMolly is another online store - but have not ordered from there.

I got bridesmaid dresses (a long time but they may still be around in Westfield) at a place called Harts

They were big in my area for formals for a while then i moved so not sure now

(in Sydney but I think they may be a chain?)

Bariano is popular for dresses. There is an outlet shop in Bridge rd Richmond plus Sale online. They also have Sale racks in their regular stores.

I bought something from Light in the Box a few years back and was pretty happy with the price and the quality.

They aren't based in Australia but do have an expedited shipping policy.

I have used The Iconic for lots of clothes.  They are quick, easy returns and have some seriously nice stuff.

I have a different opinion of hiring a dress because for the same amount and often less (thrifty shopper) I can get a dress, keep it and rewear it to another event later on.

I’d say ASOS as well, I’m in Melbourne and get my orders within 1-2 days of placing the order, they have a discount going on at the moment as well. The quality of most of the dresses is good, I’ve bought a lot of dresses and even returned for change of size without issues.

I hired last time and it was great.
You never wear the formal dress again!

Especially if you are a 16-18 yo !

Hire or borrow is the way to go :)
