Hi everyone,

I am interested to hear about peoples experiences at Mercy Heidelberg, especially those who used the maternity group practice model. How early do you need to be referred to be accepted into this program? Were there any issues with being discharged before you were ready? (the general stay is 6-12 hours post birth)

Thanks!

I went through this program last year and it was fantastic. I was referred at 4 weeks and only just got in though.

I ended up having a c section so stayed longer but having my midwife there for the birth, after and at home was lovely.

I went through it 4 years ago, and it was great. I was referred quite late (found out I was pregnant at about 8 weeks). I think I was really lucky to get in, but if you don’t get in it’s worthwhile to stay on the waiting list.

I think I was discharged after about 24 hours, by which time I was more than ready to go home. I saw the same two midwives the whole way through, and had a really, really great birth experience. The two of them then visited me at home for the next few days.

Thank you both for your responses- i'm a bit worried now about getting in as I am 5 weeks. I asked my doctor last week, but he didn't know much about the program and thought it would be fine to wait-- i'll go in this week and ask for the referral!

Do you see the midwives much in the lead up to the birth? Do you have any visits with an OB?

Thank you!

Can either of you remember when you had your first appointment for this program? I’ve been told I’ve been assigned a midwife, but am waiting to find out details of first visit etc.
Thanks!
