And another. And of COURSE the interviews with neighbours said he was a "nice guy". Right.

When is this going to end???

Absolutely unbearably awful.  How dare he traumatise that child.  I hope the boy has lovely, supportive relatives to nurture him through this tragedy.

This is awful, that poor child.

They must’ve deleted the “nice guy” comments? I can’t find it in that article or the linked Herald Sun article within your link.
I also found a couple of ABC articles that have no talk about either from neighbours l.

I’m glad they have deleted it if it was there.

They spoke to a neighbour on seven news yesterday and he was the one to say he was a "nice guy".

Whilst this is an absolutely tragic event and even more tragic that a young child witnessed it - the perpetrator was someones son, possibly brother etc.

For every criminal out there - they were "nice" to someone so I am not surprised by the comment.

Oh sorry I misunderstood and thought you meant it was in your linked article.

I was listening to Jane Gilmore (Fixed It on Twitter and now a book) on the Wilosophy podcast and she was talking about the “good guy” quotes and the reporting of them. It was a great podcast about her but it also covered a lot about the reporting of violence against women if anyone is interested.

Sure but the media don’t need to report that comment - a nice person doesn’t stab his ex wife in front of his son.

All that in one week.  It makes me so angry.  Even more so that at the same time our government is giving legitimacy to the "women make up violence to keep kids from their fathers" line through this parliamentary inquiry.  While all this is happening our 'leaders' are moving the discussion in the opposite direction.  It's frankly disgusting.

I think it's valuable to keep pointing out that there's always a bunch of people who thought the perpetrator was a nice guy.

He probably IS a nice guy to most people.

So often these guys are not scary guys that you assume will one day murder their partner.  These guys are the guys you work with, the guys you have a drink with, the guys you play sport with, go to the movies with, live with, have children with.

They're all nice guys.  Until they aren't.

I transcribed a DV victim the other day. She was afraid of her partner but couldn’t get him out of her house. I hope she got help :(
