Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Miss DC - 4 sounds good, I'll cross my fingers that things are still going well.
IamOzgirl - good luck tomorrow, looks like you have a good number of follicles, so hopefully that translates to a good haul of fertilized eggs!
Bumbleflop - your user name always makes me laugh. Not sure why! Hope AF starts soon for you.
Gabbitz - how was the scan?
For me, I'm on CD6, and day 4 of injections. I've had a bit of a headache and some nausea, but nothing too bad. I can feel something happening in my ovaries, so hopefully things are going well. I don't find the liitle injector pen too bad, but I'm not looking forward to the second injection as the needle's a bit bigger. But it's not the pain, more the thought! I'll have a scan tomorrow to see how things are progressing, so fingers-crossed...

Miss HLH, sounds like you’re doing well if you can feel changes. Hope everything is going well.
We’re having a blob! On the screen, I could see head and body of bub, but in the scan photos that printed out, bub is definitely a blob! However we had a beating heart, so that made it seem so much more real. I so hope a few other of you ladies will be joining in on this journey soon too.

Thank you so much MissHLH, I could use all the luck I can get!
I'm so excited for you Gabbitz - that's excellent news, I can only imagine how you're feeling right now.
AFM: I've done so much googling and reading about women over 40 trying to conceive, I need to stop! Feeling a little anxious waiting to hear how our little embies are travelling - today is day 5 so I'm guessing I'll hear tomorrow now.
I'm also waiting to hear about a new job I interviewed for, they did my reference checks today... and my DP's dad has just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, it's in 7 different body parts....Too much going on at once, I need to work out how to manage my stress levels...!!

Gabbitz - congratulations on the blob! It's great everything is looking good.
MissDC - don't forget to take some time out and look after yourself. Each one of those things is stressful, combined could be overwhelming, so take care.

Gabbitz, yay for a blob with a heartbeat!! 😆 Glad the scan went well and yes, hopefully joining you on the journey in a few weeks! AF started today!! Woohoo!! Never thought I’d be happy for that lol
MissHLH, I hope the injections stay on the “ok I can deal with this” level for you. I seriously struggled and never want to do it again but I guess I will if I have to lol hubby might have to do the honours though. Don’t forget to mix up the location to reduce bruising. Sounds very promising that you can feel things happening already! ☺️ Fingers crossed for some good news on your scan.
MissDC it sounds like you have wayyy too much going on, I hope you get some time to yourself to just relax and try and zone out. Acupuncture might be good for this? It’s an hour or so where you just chill and turn everything off in your head. Good luck with the new job 🤞

MissDC, hope you’re doing ok. Sounds pretty stressful at the moment.
IamOzGirl - good luck today. Hope EPU goes well and you recover well.
Bumbleflop, glad AF arrived so you can get prepared to try again. Hope this time round goes well.

Thanks Ladies - I phoned my nurse just now as it's day 6.
She advised that the laboratory will call me this afternoon.
When they last checked, which was yesterday, we still had 4 embryo's.... Will keep you posted as I have no one else apart from my DP and my sister that I can share with!!
Hope all is well with you all x

Apparently the biggest haul of the day! Yay! (Out of the other ladies also doing EPU today, my cousin was watching all the women before me walk out and reading theirs hands)
Even my FS was impressed and asked what my secret was.
I'm confident it was the melatonin (and the alcohol - which I didn't tell my FS!)

YAY! That's awesome IamOzgirl... Congratulations! What are your plans from here? Are you doing a fresh transfer or freezing??
The Embryologist just called me to advise that I ended up with two that reached blastocyst and they have been successfully sampled and frozen - Now to wait the 3 weeks and pray that the testing comes back normal!
Posted 11 October 2019 - 12:06 PM
Still future Oz's problem!
I'll decide when they call me on fertilisation report tomorrow.
Posted 11 October 2019 - 02:40 PM
Miss DC, I hope all goes well for the testing. Is there something specific that you’re concerned might be present or just because of your age? I hope your embies are both great.
IamOzgirl. 10 is great. Hope all are mature and fertilise well (or at least lots of them!). I hope you have no issues with OHS due to the high number of eggs collected. I hope your embies grow well.
Posted 11 October 2019 - 03:09 PM
Thanks Gabbitz - testing is purely based on my age. Hopefully I am as successful as you are!
Posted 11 October 2019 - 07:12 PM
Congrats on 2 frozen blasts MissDC! Have everything crossed that they both come back ok from testing 🤞
IamOzgirl that’s awesome news!! Thinking of you for the anxious wait ahead as well!
Now I’m just curious, what’s everyone’s thoughts on BD during FET cycles? We have been told no unprotected intercourse during the medicated FET. I don’t see the problem..I’m not ovulating and if by some miracle chance I did and it fertilised then I’d be over the moon! Almost 3 years of no BFP whatsoever...not seeing the risk? 🤔
Posted 11 October 2019 - 08:06 PM
I have no idea what the reasoning would be but I’m so new to all of this. I’d be interested to hear everyone else’s thoughts too???
Posted 11 October 2019 - 09:13 PM
bumbleflop. Not a problem at all!
There is a school of thought that orgasm helps implantation. (Help the body know to expect pregnancy)
We were just warned of multiples as a reason not too.
Posted 11 October 2019 - 09:38 PM
Potentially tmi, but we got told to collect and syringe ejaculate in after one of our transfers. The doc wasn’t so keen on BD I think simply because that particular round we’d had some other stuff going on so everything was swollen. But he seemed to be of the opinion that the extra sperm was just extra chances to get pregnant. Yes potentially a multiple, but that likelihood is quite small really as once the embryo starts dividing, it generally protects itself from extra sperm. But the sperm in the uterus is still meant to be conducive to helping implantation. I think it might be the testosterone that helps or something. Can’t remember exactly what he said.
I think a lot of clinics these days are paranoid about the risk of multiple births as they know IVF has a higher risk due to hormone levels of causing an embryo to split even without implanting more than one embryo. They also know the risks to Mum and bubs as they won’t take multiples to term because there are too many health risks to keep them in that long, but then there’s all the potential risks for premies too.
I know my clinic has disclaimers that you have to sign to implant more than 1 emby at a time and it’s only advisable after a certain age, only after you’ve had multiple failures previously blah, blah , blah.
There’s just so much legal speak it gets frustrating at times. Even when we did fresh cycles with embies where we had one ‘good’ and one ‘so-so’ quality. The ‘so-so’ quality one wasn’t going to be able to freeze and we felt that we needed to give it a shot as we weren’t comfortable just letting it ‘succumb’ as they put it. We had to sign all of the waivers and stuff. Thankfully our doc was on our side as he agreed that all embies should be given at chance to grow.
Sorry, just having a bit of a rant! Sometimes I think the docs forget that this is all about us being able to have kids, not about covering their butt if something doesn’t go as expected.

So from 10, only 5 fertilized.
Next call Monday. I except to loss a few then too.

Hi everyone, long-time IVFer, first-time poster! (in these threads anyway)
Congratulations Gabbitz, I hope everything goes perfectly from here. Ozgirl, I really hope the 5 embies are strong little things and you get good news next week. Hi everyone else!
I started fertility treatments in 2009 and IVF in 2010. Ended up in ICU with severe OHSS in my first cycle. Many many cycles and trying lots of different things, I finally got a wonderful batch of embryos in 2012 - 11 blasts tested, 8 were good and 2 no result (we were aiming for 4 embryos to test, so 11 was unreal).
DD1 was born in 2013, DD2 in 2016 after 3 transfers, and DS was born almost a year ago on the first transfer. Devastatingly though he caught a virus in his first few days and we lost him at 6 weeks old.
I had thought our IVF journey had ended when I got pregnant with DS, but it wasn't to be. I had 3 embryos left (which included the two with no PGD result). I had 3 transfers this year with no success. Then my first stim cycle for 7 years. 19 eggs collected, 13 were inseminated and 10 fertilised. All 10 were still going on day 5, but on day 6 it was confirmed that none was good enough for biopsy or freezing. The timing indicates it was a sperm issue, which has never seemed to be a problem for us before.
So now I'm about to start another stim with a new clinic, as my FS and a few others from my old clinic broke away to start their own clinic. Our checks seem to have been done now, so I just need a scan and BT next week before I get the go-ahead to start.
Sorry for the novel! Oh and my recent paperwork from my old clinic actually had intercourse the night before transfer on the treatment plan, except crossed out for me as I do stims for frozen transfers and have a ridiculous amount of follicles.

Hmm I think we will go against their advice again this month then lol if it somehow happened then oopsies 🤷♀️
IamOzgirl, I know you must be bummed losing 5 already but I really hope the 5 you have left are strong and healthy! 🤞 were any of them done with ICSI?
Hi Andi ☺️👋 welcome!! I hope you can find this place useful and somewhere that you can just let it all out. Reading your story, my heart broke for you. What a cruel world 😔 I wish you the best of luck in adding to your family! Sounds promising by changing clinics to some of your old specialists. Hopefully they have some new tricks up their sleeve since you dealt with them last. Do you know why you have struggled with fertility or are you on the unexplained route?
Posted 12 October 2019 - 10:57 PM
Hi Andi. Welcome to the group. This is a great place to vent and let us help you. We’ve all had our rollercoaster ride to this point, so whilst the journeys may differ, everyone’s ‘novel’ is unique and important. In some ways people on these forums understand in a way that our friends and relatives can never do.
I hope your next cycle goes well.

Thanks for the welcome Bumbleflop! Are you doing an HRT cycle? I did those in the past and no-one was concerned about it then!
Sorry I didn't mention that I have PCOS, seems to be fairly severe. I never had natural cycles before having babies, so I started with fertility treatments right away when I was 25. It then took adding clexane, prednisolone and antibiotics to get results. I also do acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
I'm still with the same FS, I've just had to wait for the new clinic to be accredited before being able to start again. She is amazing and got me my 3 babies after a not so great start with a different FS. She is great with suggesting new things to try. Last cycle we added intralipids and had a hysteroscopy/D&C beforehand, but we don't know if that embryo was good or not. So I'm really hoping that this time we can get some embryos to the testing stage!

Hi Andi - good luck with the next cycle. Nice to have a FS that you trust.
IamOzgirl - I understand the disappointment, but fingers-crossed you only need one of those 5 to have your baby.
Semen has immunomodulatory properties in it, it can help to regulate the immune system in the female reproductive tract. Normally the immune system would try and kill any foreign invaders, and sperm (and an embryo) 'look' foreign to the immune system. Sperm, and semen, have properties that can help down-regulate the immune system and help implantation and tolerance to the fetus. Obviously could up the risk of multiples (e.g. a 'natural' pregancy plus the transferred embryo, but considering most people are undergoing IVF because the natural way hasn't worked, it's a risk I'd be willing to take. Assuming I was in the mood).
As for me, I had a scan on Friday and only had 6 follicles, and 2 were barely worth measuring (the radiographer didn't measure them at first, then she did). I was pretty upset. The doctor said he thought I could get 12-15 eggs, so to only get 6 follicles was upsetting, especially as they probably don't all have mature eggs. A few years ago I froze some eggs and never got a good response then, but hadn't been diagnosed or treated for the endometriosis, so I really hoped for better. I'll have another scan on Monday, but don't expect the number to improve, but maybe just the sizes. Anyway, have started on the antagonist meds, and it's not too bad to do.

I'm sorry for your loss.
My IVF conceived son was stillborn almost 12 mths ago.
After my partner leaving me I am now doing it alone.

Miss HLH, I hope your scan today shows some improvement on your follicle situation. I understand the concern though having also had endo. Did they up your dosages of any meds at all to try to encourage more follicles or for the smaller ones to grow?
IamOzgirl and Andi, I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child. I’m sorry for your losses. Big hugs to you both. I hope you have people in your life who can be your support when needed to talk through those memories.
