My husband is turning 50 in a few weeks.  I'm stumped for ideas for a gift.  From stuff that he's said, he'd like something sentimental.

Please help me!

Print out some family photos and put them in one of those multi-photo frames?

A weekend away for the two of you?

Something unique to him, such as a newspapers from the day he was born (can't remember the site now)?

A framed picture listing 50 things that you all love about him. ("50 things we love about you") Here's an example:

Get 50 people to write down something about him - maybe a memory, a joke, something they love about him. You could put them in 50 envelopes or a book or something. Here's and example:

Plenty of ideas on Google / Pinterest for ideas similar to these.

as PP suggested - the fairfax site will do a copy of the front page (smh or Age) of the day he was born. i’ve actually ordered one for my DH who is also 50 in a few weeks! they’ll frame it too...i just got a dark brown frame which will go with the decor of our study. but apart from that i’m struggling...i saw some nice cufflinks which i could get engraved, but, i don’t know...men are so hard!

some other suggestions (which i’ve already exhausted for previous birthdays/xmas-

good quality leather carry on bag or suit pack
watch
framed photos
expensive bottle of his drink of choice - scotch, grange (of year he was born if you’re feeling overly generous - i assume that could be quite pricey though)

This is not fully developed thought but we were in a shop on the weekend and DH heard a song and mentioned 'that was number 1 when I was born'

so something about a list of things such as his number 1 when born list, bestseller book, news on the day (paper headlines aslo but extra bits), other things from the year he was born etc.

To add to the newspaper idea, enlarge a copy of his newspaper birthday announcement as well. A friend of mine combed through the library microfiche for my one for my 21st. It's a pity it's not a thing done nowadays (I certainly didn't do it for DS).

From a group of people - does he like cricket ??  You could get everyone to sign a cricket bat and it can be his 50 and not out!!!

Gift from you - a really nice watch and have it engraved

My DH is turning 50 later this year and wants a go pro,  just for family holidays and swimming/kayaking.

He likes rum,  so expensive rum he would also like.

We are also going overseas.

He's not a watch wear-er.  This would be so much easier if he was

We just had my husband’s 40th. He’s a giant comic nerd so the gift from me was a Royal Selangor pewter sculpture of Iron Man. He’s also heavily into AFL, so his parents & sister got him a replica premiership cup.

My husband turned 50 this past year and I was stumped for ideas too. I ended up getting him this travel mug...

Its VERY fancy, and great if he likes a few different sorts of gadgets. I had to buy form Amazon au site, but you might be able to order straight from the company now.

^^ My reaction  “$300 on a travel mug that’s insane ...wait a minute I can set the temperature so my tea would be exactly how I like it for THREE HOURS bargain!”

Your wish is my command LB, but alas, I haven't any other ideas to add.

Not quite reached that milestone myself so can't even pass on what I received.

Good luck with it all OP

Thanks for your suggestions everyone :)

I've managed to find a copy of the local newspaper for the day that he was born so will have that framed.

I'd like to get him something else - he's not into jewellery; doesnt wear a watch; rarely drinks alcohol; not into any sport except for car racing (a hot lap was suggested to me but he's already done similar)

Is he into The Simpsons?

I've seen an ad in FB where you can have a family portrait drawn in Simpsons style that looked pretty cool.  I think they called it 'Turned Yellow'.  I'm saving this idea for my DP's next birthday.

thanks Eponee.....that’s led me down a fabulous rabbit hole of hot laps! i never knew of such things! lol now my BIL is involved and reckons i should book the one for Mt Panorama! that would be awesome, but they’re only for specific dates in December, and it’s a Monday...which could be logistically difficult. but i guess when Mt Panorama is on offer....then Eastern Creek starts looking a bit second rate....
