DP is convinced it's a bogan name in Australia.
I'm not really sure. Neither of us grew up here. I think it's a really lovely name, any thoughts? #2Posted 04 December 2019 - 10:00 PM
Not a bogan name at all, its lovely
#3Posted 04 December 2019 - 10:03 PM
It’s pretty common these days.
For me personally it’s in the southern cross tatt category - as in I want everyone to know I am an Aussie and generally I am racist to the core. Others will disagree I am sure but this is my personal experience with the name!! ETA I removed the bogan because I don’t think it’s bogan because I like bogan, it’s something different than that. it is the least bogan out of all bogan names. in fact it is not bogan because it is spelt correctly.

I don't think it's considered bogan at all by most people. I can't speak for everyone but the little Matilda's I know come from families who wouldn't be described as bogan (although I think all Australians have some bogan in them
![]() Personally it makes me think of the Roald Dahl book which I love ![]() Edited by **Xena**, 04 December 2019 - 10:22 PM. #6Posted 04 December 2019 - 10:50 PM
Bogan? Only if you could call an English queen bogan...

It's not bogan (as long as its spelt correctly).
It's a lovely name. I second Roald Dahl - fabulous story with a quietly fierce little hero named Matilda. Edited by LenaK, 04 December 2019 - 10:52 PM. #8Posted 04 December 2019 - 10:54 PM
Not bogan at all!
It bugs me a lot that peoples names are still being labelled as bogan. Needs to be stamped out #9Posted 04 December 2019 - 11:14 PM
Another vote for not bogan. Great choice of nicknames too, if you're into that - Tilly, Tilda, Matty.

Not bogan. It’s a pet’s name for me though, I knew a lovely canine Matilda and can’t get past that!

Not bogan.

Not bogan. Beautiful!

Not at all bogan! All the Matilda’s I know are definitely not from families anyone would describe as bogan.

Definitely not bogan.
It is actually german in origin from memory. #15Posted 05 December 2019 - 03:28 AM
Not bogan at all! My sister has a Mathilde (German spelling) and she is not bogan in the slightest.

Not bogan. Not associated with southern cross tats around here. I think of it as a bit inner city hipster.

I don't think it's bogan, but it's not a name that appeals to me.

Who wouldn't disagree with this? You would label someone as racist based on the name their parents gave them? #19Posted 05 December 2019 - 05:08 AM
I don’t think it’s bogan but I still don’t like it.

No I don’t think it’s bogan or a Southern Cross style name. I know a couple of Matildas and they are nothing like that.
#21Posted 05 December 2019 - 05:21 AM
No. Not unless you spell it Mhatyldah.

To me, if you are talking bogan then the one name that a lot(not all because I have a relative with the name) associate with bogan is ‘Sharon’ or the short of ‘Shazza’.
Matilda is actually a name I think a lot associate with ‘Waltzing Matilda’ the song. Matilda being the term used for swag. #24Posted 05 December 2019 - 05:57 AM
I agree with PP’s I know a few Matilda’s and they are from families who definitely would not be described as Bogan.

i don’t think it’s bogan, and it doesn’t give rise to southern cross tatts connotations to me. i only know one Matilda and she’s not like that at all. it’s certainly not a very common name, which may appeal. i quite like it.
