Hello all

My almost 2.5yr old bites herself fiercely when she's frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this, and what did you do?

Her communication generally is excellent for her age, so I don't think it's frustration at not being understood. It seems usually to be part of a tantrum, where she's frustrated and full of rage because she's not getting her own way.

We tell her not to do it of course - but during a tantrum, she doesn't listen...

Experiences? Strategies?

My kids have high functioning ASD so could be different for us. Both had very good Language skills at that age.

Sometimes it is sensory seeking behaviour. In the sense that when my son had a sensory overload and unable to feel himself physically in his own place.

Things that made it a little easier was wearing one of those skins type Lycra tops from best n less. Also having a mini backpack with a heavy towel in it to help him feel grounded.

There are lots of chewing necklaces and bracelets around too. .
